Got an ENGL Savage 120 MKII recently! I love ENGL amps a lot. They just do it for me because of the excellent high gain tones but also because of the versatility. The cleans are always excellent and the crunch tones are great too! The EQs tend to be really reactive too unlike other amps, I particularly like how that gives you so much control over your tones. So I love my Fireball 100 and Powerball II a lot for those reasons. However, people kept on bugging me about the Savage 120 MKII so eventually I got one!

This amp definitely is very nice on many levels! One thing that I didn't even realise is that the amp only has 2 powertubes, the 6550s. Apparently those tubes have a lot of juice in them! The lead channel is amazing obviously and clean and crunch I are also really nice! I'm not overly fond of crunch II and I don't really need two crunch channels anyway but it's there if you need it :)

As with most ENGL amps this amp handles a wide range of tones from sparkly cleans all the way up to tight and modern extended range metal and literally everything in between. Plenty of tone shaping options too like the contour switches, depth boost etc. Etc.

Is it better than my other ENGLs? I don't know, I love them all so much tbh. This one definitely does its own thing and the lead channel does sound very brutal yet refined, so it always sounds good with minimal tweaking basically, that's pretty rad!

As always, here's an in depth look at the amp with various clips and guitars through all the channels. I also included dialing in sections for all the switches and channels so you can hear how they react and affect the tone:

Man I love that Lead channel but I felt the rest of the amp was useless to me. Too many tone shaping features and the 2 Crunch channels seem redundant. I wish they put this Lead channel on a single or 2 channel amp somewhat similar to the Fireball 100 platform. The Blackmore is supposedly "Savage" technology, but still not the same Lead tone.

The Fireball 100 is an amazing amp in itself though! I haven't compared them yet but you might be able to dial them in to sound similar.

Good to see you again here @Guitarjon ;). Always enjoy your posts across the platforms.

The Savage has been on my bucket list of amps since watching/listening Warren Hayes play through one way back when.

Oh well.....maybe someday.

Thanks! :) It's definitely an amp worth saving up for! I haven't tried the 60 but I imagine it also sounds awesome!

You're welcome Sir!

Plus, everytime I see your presence I immediately think..."man, that guy sure looks like Aaron Rodgers". Please accept my levity and awkward compliment, and please continue your good work! (y)(y)

Will look up who that is... I hope he looks good! 🤣

How is the master on this amp.
I really liked my SE 670, but the master volume sucked.
I have bought an attenuator for it, which made me lost the interest and I sold the amplifier.
By the way, the amp was very hard to flip.

I think as with my other ENGL amps that the master is great! A wide range and smooth transitions
