EQ in the loop, huge difference?

The Orange has some noticeable mids but as we all know, those mids cut thru the mix, so I think I would do some subtle eq adjustments.

You guys were mentioning eq in the loop or eq up front. Can you have the eq up front without it boosting?
You can use an EQ in either place. General idea is frown before the amp, and smile in the loop.

I have had two of the black MXR 10 bands and two of the silvers. If I could learn to set it and forget it I wouldn't have sold them. Wonderful piece of gear once you get used to dialing them in.

Now that a few of you mentioned it, would have loved to try one with the Quickrod I had to cut the low end. Might have kept that amp longer that way. Couldn't use anything but Gear 1 boosted before it was way too boomy for me.

I have a Boss GE-7 modded by Modest Mike that stays on all the time in the Loop. I purchased an MXR 10 Band in the silver box thinking it would be better with the 3 extra settings and a separate Volume/Gain. It looked way cool and sounded great but for some reason the modded GE-7 sounded better to my ears.

The one time I tried an EQ in the loop it was with an amp at my job. The difference was night and day. I don't know why I never bought one. I should probably fix that.

I had the same experience with the Empress. I've also owned the Boss EQ-200 and sold that one fast. A/B'ed with the MXR 10-band and it just lacked the warmth...way too sterile like the Empress. I also own an Analogman modded GE-6 and it sounds excellent. Between that and the MXR I'm all set, though I have had my eye on some of the Master Effects pedals.
I love the empress . Once you get it set , I will it’s hard to use though

they can get a little tricky but its just so nice to be able to hit those sweet spot frequencies like 1.2K that most graphics dont have.
Oh don't get me wrong, PEQ is the way to go for precision, but as we know most guitarists are a bit of neanderthals and when given too many knobs and options, will make some awful decisions. So I suggest a fixed graphic EQ for anyone who hasn't played with EQs before. Gives a more immediate visual representation of what's going on, and general are less powerful than PEQs, which can be a good thing. You're right though, 1.2k is one of the bit money frequenices when I need some more snap, especially with Orange amps OP was talking about.

yeah, youre right. one of the Xact tone modded GE7's popped up on reverb with the good frequencies but the dude wants way to much

I wouldn't recommend a parametric for most people either. They are definitely harder to use, and requires some knowledge on what to do with them. The sliders on a graphic is much easier.

It wouldn't be too hard to mod a GE-7 for different frequencies if you do some math and find the values to change. I have done the calculations before, but never actually did it.

I am going to try the silver mxr 10 band with my Krank Chadwick. You guys are full of good ideas
was just coming in here to say that's what I have and I use it in the loop all the time! LOVE it. the amp's tone stack is a sledgehammer, the EQ in the loop is the scalpel. I use it to make minor tweaks, very powerful tool!

That's great to hear, sounds like a good purchase!

Never used one in a loop. Once in a great while in front as a distortion or tweak the lows.
With the old slaved rig I had one of the Rockman guitar eq’s that was nice along with the parametric eq on the Juice Extractor…about for eq’s for me.
My old UL had one and never touched it.

Smile in the loop. Frown in front of the amp.

I have the MXR 108S and a few others. Have not used them for years. But can make for a very versatile rig.
