ERECT ROCKS! long.. (comparison to a real recto and eg5)

*cough* *cough*...like I said...
I am sending my EG-5 back for the E-rect. Biggest problem Ihad with the EG-5 was still too thin to my ears no matter what I did. Only thing I liked was how tight it was....but not enough for me to keep it. The E-Rect kills it for a full tone but the lead tone needs some help. I am hoping a boost pedal up front will help.

If I can find the perfect front end boost for the E-Rect for leads, it could be darn near perfect for some of our music! Maybe the Xotic BB Preamp boost. EG5 was nice but it brought me back to te 80s too much. ;) I can get that from the SL2 when needed.
Pete's XTC is the only other temptation.

I will miss the tight bottom and percussive nature of the EG-5.

Rich we definitely have different ears. After using bass boost on 2, I find the EG5 thicker than both SL2 and E-Rect. E-Rect is the thinnest by far. We maybe thinnest isnt the right word, but less 3D than the other two.

Interesting......I had a buddy over and I have to admit the E-Rect filled the room more than the others. It just had this full, big tone, wider than what I hear with the EG-5. Are you at high volume levels when comparing?
I noticed right away when plugging in that it was way more full and has more depth than the EG5 to my ears. ;) Not even close. I just need a front end boost that will juice it for leads maybe with some added mids and I am good.

I got the Erect dialed in to sound like my Mesa Mk III. I A/B 'd them and now my mesa just sits there unpluged. The only differance is i dont have the Hummmmmm with the Erect...lol My mesa is an late 88-90'ish 100 watt no Eq sliders or half power switch, straight up balls to the wall amp. I do use it with a Digitech GNX4 when i want to record a new song, running it in the effect return for the power amp section and by-passing the front eq section.

Settings? ;) :D

I think i'm more along the lines of richie's preferences. Also, one thing that we're not really accounting for is that we all use different guitars, cables, picks (remember I use el34s! out of laziness more than anything but it sounds great) etc, so one module may compliment our style more. I still think a huge difference for me was the feel. I felt much more at home with the erect vs. the eg5, and i can see someone having the exact opposite reaction. IMO the erect sounds thicker for what I do, but one mans thick is another mans undefined, so like I said the important thing to me is that they are both so different, so that we have more options.

If you've checked out the eg5 but can't get it quite right, check out the erect. Likewise if you've tried the erect but don't bond with it, check out the eg5 (or less gain, more woody the Sl2). If you come from a mesa background and like it, you owe it to try the erect because it's like the mesa without the little 'issues'. The Erect doesn't get mentioned as much as the eg5, so I'm trying to give it a bump because I think it deserves some recognition. With everything at noon, and a slight dip in the treble it sounds really full to me, like all the frequencies combined together to make one tone (if that makes any sense, verses feeling like the mids are independent from the bass?)

And if you can, just collect them all :D

Reading about how eric offered to do some demos, it reminded me of how kick ass his eg5 clips were in some of the songs he posted! But like I said in the other thread, it's the reason why I got the eg5, but it just works better in his hands than in mine

well i played the eg5 today and and switched from ch A is distortion now and ch B is cleaner. after reading about the compression on ch B I switched my settings around. I like the Eg5 better now that i did that. I do get more of a "Ratt" hair band sound out of it and a better cleanish on ch B. my Settings on the Erect are about Bass 1:00 mid 10:30 ish and treb 12:15-30 ish i use ch A clean, just a crack of gain and vol to taste. Ch B gain at 11ish. now i get completely different feel and sound dependinding on if i use a 07 LP 1960 reissue, 08 standard fender (cleanest sound but pick up hum),08 fender american deluxe (great all around sound) and PRS custom 24 :D . All my pedals go through 2 gcx switchers so there isn't any signal loss when im not going through them. i use a maxon od808 with the erect (clean)and get a great santana sound. The SL2 i have set up to sound JTM45/Plexi ish :2thumbsup:

Some modules like the E-Rect are supposed to have identical A and B channels. Weird though - channel B must be really compressed because I have to turn it up much louder than A to match volume! Odd.

Hm, that's weird, I didn't notice that with mine. I have my A lower gain than my B, so I accordingly turn the A master up to match the levels.

I have a slight tone difference but not volume, pretty close though!!

I got my Erect about a week ago and I am floored. This is the thick, huge, full modern tone I was looking for! Nice compliment when I don't want to use the SL2 or EG3/4. Channel A can cover a ton of ground just by rolling back the guitar's volume and turn channel B's gain up and man, you get some nice, thick, saggy leads! HUGE! Thanks Jeff.

Stop it Rich!!......I'm already gassing for the COD, now you put this out there.......  :D
