Agreed, although Gore Obsessed was kind of similar but with a better bass tone, but Blood Thirst was the best guitar tone they’ve recorded. But the bass tone on The Bleeding is fucking legendary in my book.
I agree with all this

The Bleeding is just fucking legendary, period. very few albums where the songs, production and vibe are just so perfect. id have to put it in my all time top 10 metal albums, it just brings a smile to my face every time i put it on

I always knew it was a recto, but didn’t know it was going through that greenback cab. Makes a lot of sense now.

Depends on the record. No record up until recently is a greenback speaker. A huge part of cannibals tone outside of the metal zone and the red channel on a recto, is the OS recto cab. There sound is in that cab, and it’s a huge, huge part of it.

am I the only one who absolutely loves the tone and production on evisceration plague? That title track is one of their best ever in my opinion for that type of vibe.
I’ll concede on that one. It’s the only ‘clean’ CC production that Rutan achieved for them and the only one that doesn’t sound blurred and muddy. I can easily make out the notes and instrument separation on EP.

Finally someone said it. Thanks Chris.

NO! That album is SICK!! It's the first one i listened to in my car when i got my car 3 1/2 years ago.

Oh totally! I think maybe 2017 on been the greenbacks, that’s when I noticed the tone went a bit darker instead of the signature high end of a v30. Torture maybe had some greenbacks going on with the mark v and recto blend? At least seems like it to me just due to that darker sound and not the signature high end of a v30.

Bloodthirst with Collin Richardson just screams Mesa oversized with a v30 to me, but never had it confirmed, it is my favorite guitar tone they had though. Just straight balls.

id love to hear newer songs with their old Crate rigs, ive never had a problem with any of their tones but boosted rectos arent exactly separating you from the pack, The Bleeding is just so unique and "Cannibal"

I think there’s many tones like that over time. Not necessarily “good”, but it’s the bands sound and it makes them, them. I think a lot of people are a bit scared nowadays to go for something a little different than the typical tone we hear on modern records.

I watched some vid a while ago about the bleeding and they were saying they don't even think that a gx-130c was used on that album. They think because of studio pictures around that time that the album was really recorded with a Marshall Valvestate?? Who knows. I know they also used some tube Crates as well, probably live.

I owned that amp (gx-130c), and what a wimpy piece of shit it was. I can't see CC using them, but maybe they did??

That's very true, not enough bands try to get a unique tone anymore. It's always Recto's or Marshall's, or maybe a EVH or Peavey 5150/6505 for metal bands anyways. Like for instance, not too many bands are rocking the Mark series, which are very unique sounding. This is partly because if you're in a band Mesa would rather you be playing their popular models because it better helps with their sales, and also, everyone has heard of a rectifier, not everyone has heard of a Mark series. So they go with the tried and true and don't give the alternative a try.

I'm not saying you can't get a unique tone with a recto either... CC do cause they're boosting them with metal zones which really saturates them, But it's harder to stand out from the pack if you're using the same gear.

i dont know, but they were definitely using gx130c full stacks on the bleeding tour and it sounds like the bleeding. my gx130c sounds just like the bleeding with that smooth top. i really gotta grab a valvestate marshall

and fuck were they ripping here, id rather albums go back sounding closer to this than modern bullshit

I'm surprised, that's actually a very articulate old school kinda tone. Not super saturated like they go for these days. Those screams are funny.

But how many more unique tones are out there to be had, when many amps are just tweaked versions of older amps? (Rhetorical question kinda).

Another thing when renting studio time is its so expensive, even without spending hours tweaking different tones and trying different amp combinations, it's more affordable to just go with what works (given that the studio has more than a handful of amps on hand).

I love to dig up articles containing interviews of the band. Especially the guitarists. Because of this I can say for sure that Violence Unimagined was where they first started recording the Marshall 1960B w/ the older Greenback speakers instead of their traditionally used Mesa cabs. They still use the Mesa cabs live, but have been seen with Marshall cabs at some shows. Like I saw someone mention earlier, they quad track the guitars every album and always blend two amps for the rhythm tone. The main amp is always a Mesa Rectifier. When Pat was in the band it was Triple Rec. Now that Eriks in they use Duals. The second amp for Violence was a 5150 block-letter boosted with an 808. The new album Chaos Horrific is a recto blended with Erik's hot mod '79 Marshall JMP boosted with a 30th anniversary TS9 tuber screamer. They've been using Maxon ST9 Pro+ since at least 2012 as the main boost for the Rectos and their live shows. They have changed the way they dial the ST9 Pro+ though over the years. Before the Maxon's they used Keeley modified Metal Zones or at least Pat's was Keeley modified. Pat and Erik both often use other amps/cabs for the lead tones though and often used their Marshall amps or cabs for lead tones. I wish I knew for sure what amp was blended with Kill and Evisceration Plague and which mic's they used on the cabs hehe.
