ESP Custom Shop Trade / Value

Sorry I hate these threads, but I have a slight dilemna.

I have a gentleman who is interested in trading his ESP Custom Horizon from circa 1998-1999. Ive never seen one like it and it has ESP Custom on a reverse M style headstock (and on the back), a serial number I dont recognize and a schaller bridge rather then a floyd. I am pretty sure as to its authenticity but it also could be an older standard Horizon Arch top as I have had a few eclipses etc, that were stamped ESP Custom as well. It is basicly a horizon Body with a Reverse m style neck. To my knowledge the Standard horizons only came with the cock stock.

It is in ridiculously good shape, and he wants to trade for my Orange 4x12. This leaves me with an awesome guitar and no cabinet temporarily.

Is this a good deal, or should I stick with my gear and hold out for something better to come along (my only real issue with the guitar is its trans blue with an alder body and Im not a huge fan of that finish even at all.

If anyone is familiar with 90's ESP Standard series values, let me know as I would love some more info on it.
 
If that's the real deal, (sounds like the neck is at least)... you would definately come out best in the trade.
 
I have personally seen and played arched tops with the ESP pointed stocks..

When you ordered an ESP Custom in the 90's..
The form basically started with Body shape check, MII , Horizon, Eclipse, Viper, V ,ect, ect or custom...
Bolton , neck through, set neck..
Material, Binding.. blah, blah..
Then Headstock shape .. ESP Pointed, Vintage, Horizon, Eclipse..
Reverse, check yes or no, Tilt yes or no
Finish, ect,ect,ect..

They made any option available on any Esp model, available on a Custom..
If you wanted something other than that there was space to fill out to explain what you wanted..

Dont forget Page Hamilton from Helmet played a Horizon Arched top with the ESP pointed reverse & non reverse headstock for years and years prior to even having a signature model..

At some point around that time there was also a Horizon Classic or Custom Classic it was like a standard model but ESP had extra options you could check or change but without the Custom shop hassle and within the standard price range..
 
do you have a picture of it ????? i could give you some info on it if i saw what it looked like ...

the serial numbers on esps that early are basically useless, they didnt really have their serial # system organized properly until around 2003 i believe ....

i wouldnt say hed come out best, it would prob be even if anything, early esp's are fetching between 300-700 depending on model and condition

oo btw im almost positive that the early horizons with see thru finishes had ash bodies, not alder

Don't blame you. Would love to have one.. no matter how heavy they are.
 
Is it normal for a early 90's US custom shop ESP not to have a serial number?

Yes it is, some of them were ink stamped numbers on top of the clear coat so its very common for them to get rubbed out as well.

Cool I believe mine never had one. I know it's the real deal the build was completely overseen by the President of ESP at the time.
 
I thought the Horizon's from the 90's had these headstocks.the one on the right? Like Page Hamilton's?

Ill post pics if I end up picking it up on Sunday. For now my shoddy descriptions will have to do.

I bought my orange cab for around $900 would this be a fair trade then for a true custom shop?
