I'm going to pick up this 2014 ESP Eclipse Standard in next day or two. I believe it's legit and I have no reason to doubt the seller. The odd thing is that it has the old script ESP logo, which was discontinued in 2012. I believe the ESP block logo was used in 2013 and then the "E-II" in 2014.

From the very limited info I can find on the net, there are very few of these old logo ESP's with 2014 serials. From what I can gather, they were most likely 2012 NOS guitars that ESP had laying around in their factory and decided to ship to dealers in 2014, and therefore assigned a 2014 serial number. The seller bought this one brand new from a music store.

I tried posting on the ESP forum but that was a disaster. That site needs serious work.

Here are pics:

I can try to post the pics to the thread if you want.

Thanks. I was able to post them after all. Site was a little wonky at first but worked out.

Looks like it's definitely legit according to the ESP forum. Just bugs me that I can definitively figure out why it's a newer serial with older logo.

Its legit. As a former ESP dealer you cant always go by Serial numbers and logos as guitars tended to sit in the warehouse in Japan awhile before getting the ride over here on a ship.

Out of curiosity, do they build them first and then wait until they ship to serialize them?

I'm guessing this one was built late 2012 and sat around until it was shipped in 2014. But that means they didn't stamp the serial until it shipped.

I'll say it's legit here, too. :lol

Phil you look like a superhero on the ESP forum educating all those n00bs. I just went through all those pages.

I miss the old ESP forum. When it updated years back it just sucked afterward. Used to have actual infrmation

Yep, real deal. I remember hearing that ESP makes the guitars, and then serializes them before they go to market. If I can remember, I'll post a link up here, but I'll second what the others above have said...ESP'a serial numbers can vary, and aren't an indication not when the construction started or was completed.

Nice score! I actually loved ESPs, but after playing on some Ibanez necks for years, I can some crazy arthritis pain or something any time I play a thin neck.

Well the serial is under the clear coat. That's why I assumed it might be a refinish or a refurbed guitar. I doubt ESP would sell a refurb as new.

It could also be just fulfilling an existing order for ESP Standards and the customer wouldn't accept E-II. Who knows? It's an awesome guitar!
