Hey,

I got to play an ESP M-II standard with neck thru-body construction and EMG 81 active pickups, neck and bridge last night. The first thing I noticed was neck contour really suited me, as did the 'fat' frets. I was also quite impressed with the finish of this guitar. BUT what really amazed me was the active EMGs as I've never played these before... and the amount of gain on tap  I was getting 'nice' sparkling cleans through to some great driven sounds.

The problem is I got to play the ESP with a Budda Superdrive 30 and not my Eistein. My question; is the ESP with EMG's a perfect match with Diezel amps? If so, what ESP do you play and does it have EMG actives?

So any love for ESP from Diezel users?

<-------------guitar in avatar plus 96 Diezel prototype VH4 with super secret "crunch" switch equals brootz metal, I put up a clip on Youtube and the Angry Mom's association had my channel taken down immediatley because it was melting the faces off of babies.

Fantastic comment :D

Yeah I was just checking out the 'love' for ESP with Diezel owners... I think I might be ditching my life long association with Fender!

I have a M1 custom with Charlie Chaplin
picture which I got in 1985 with one SH6
humbucker.

Hairs are gone, guitar is here :D

I use an eclipse 2 with 2 x 81's and sounds splendid! You just need to watch the amount of gain you dial in as I personally think the sound can become a little too compressed with too much gain and the high signal of the pickups. I would love try some bareknuckle pickups in there!!!

Yeah I get exactly what you mean about dialing in too much gain with the EMG's. I have a Nail Bomb and trilogy in my HSS Strat that is a damn good combination, but just loved what those EMG's did and to be honest I thought the way the ESP felt, I'm tempted to ditch the Fenders and I've used Fender for a long.... long.... time. Its just if an aging rocker can carry off using an ESP axe

My three main guitars all have EMG 85/S/S and out of any Diezel amp, they thrived through the Einstein.

Devout Diezel Lover here...

NT-II loaded with calibrated BKP's Painkillers
FR-II loaded with EMG 81/85 (might be getting swapped to Miracle Man's, or Nailbombs)

V.

I had a Schecter Loomis 7 last year and I tried it through my Einstein and even though I do not like EMG pickups in general, it sounded good through it. Sold the guitar though as I wasn't a fan of the neck on it.

I got a Horizon NT-II here I play with mine.

Well I really liked the 'feel' of the M-II - the neck felt ultra fast and felt just right. I was impressed with the qulaity of the guitar, I can only guess what a custom must be like.

I plan to take my Einstein to a local dealer that has a M-II in stock and have a go.

I was interested to see Ventura was is using Painkillers as oposed to the EMGs. I think I need to do more research on the EMGs....

EMG81 sounds its best in ESP MII, it's a really good combination & there is a reason so many artists use it.

I'm a bit partial to this. I'm running an EMG85 in the bridge of my M-II as I couldn't stand the original 81 in combination with my Cobra. I was really happy with the 85 also with the Herbert but now I got myself a LTD EC-400VF that came with a Duncan SH-5 in the bridge and I haven't touched the ESP since getting the LTD as it sounds a whole lot better to me. Way more articulate and even huger than with the ESP. Also I can finally use the full potential of Herbies gain controls. With the 85 I couldn't go any higher than 12 on 2+ and max 11 on 3 as anything more was just too much gain.
I know my experience might have a lot to do with the LTD being mahogany and weighing a lot more but I'm about to kick out the EMGs and put some Duncans in the M-II. Gonna try my buddies Schecter C1 with an SH-4 next practice to find out if I also prefer the sound with passives in a alder bodied strat and if so the EMGs will be gone soon.

The Schecter C1 with SH1 and SH4 is my workshop guitar.
It´s a fat combination but tends to loose attack soon with
barely used strings.

Peter, is that a USA-made Schecter, or one of the Diamond Series guitars?

pummeling thick distortion for days..not for the subtle player...

So not for your jazz/funk players

I've got a local'ish dealer to bring the Viper and M-II in a few days time... will feed back how I get on when I take the Einstein along.
