Alright, sweet. No pedals for me then!!

Playing metal on a JSX I wouldn't go anywhere without a gate.

Yeah Ill definitely have a gate, thats the only thing I have ever consider essential, so I guess I need to clarify that statement.

My ns-2 died a couple days before mapfest, so now I get to try out new noisegates...

i gotta have a boost, some type of tubescreamer, and a delay. i could cover most everything with that. but on my board i also have a eq, chorus, compressor, leslie effect ande reverb

Combined with a three channel amp I do need overdrive, distortion, fuzz and delay

 can't live without my pedals

Delay's a must have!

I'd have to go with a delay as well. I can get anything else from the amp and my guitars stay in tune well enough to not need a tuner.

I am a little confused about something though. I have never owned a noise gate. I never saw a need for one. How much gain are you guys running?!?

I'd have to say I like the puritan approach myself... Albeit I have a WHACK of FX and stomps, given the choice of the very bare essentials, it'd be a DD and a wah. I can get the rest out of my amp, ax and hands.

V.

I run a shit load of gain. Not sure where Ill keep it on the JSX, but on my 6505, I mostly play on the rhythm channel with the gain at 8.

Dont bother trying out any, just get a decimator and live happily ever after noise free without neutering your tone.

Yeah I'd say a tuner,my second choice would be
a wah,maybe a delay pedal.Unless I have a big gig
I don't use anything but a tuner.

Dang. I can't even imagine running that much gain all the time. Sure, I'll do it on occasion, or hit a fuzz pedal and an overdrive into an already dirty amp, but I generally run the gain around noon.

My honest answer to essential pedals for me would be all of them. I generally run at least 10, sometimes up to 13 pedals. They have become just part of the arsenal, tools in the toolbox. Sure, I can play without them, but that's only half as fun.

delay, and decimator, what else? tuner could be helpful, no matter how good my ears are,

Nothing.

I use effects pedals to add to my sound, not to be a part of it.

The only things that are essential is your talent, an electric guitar, a cable, an amp, electricity supply, a speaker cable, and a speaker cab.

All kind of depends on the music you are playing. If your playing your own original stuff then you can keep it just the guitar and an amp if that's what you like. If your playing covers it's not quite that easy depending on the covers. If I tried to play Pink Floyd's Run Like Hell without that delay going the crowd would look at me like I'm a leper. I wish I could just use an amp and guitar and a tuner but it's just not realistic. I personnaly could be happy that way though. But yet I do enjoy having options in my sonic spectrum. I mainly like having some different delays, wah, modulation effects and an occasional octave /whammy type effect. I use a G-system which covers all my bases along with amp channel switching.

Wa and what ever modulation pedal you like.

A 535Q and a RM ~ Voodoo Vibe is all I bring to most gigs.

That's one opinion.

There are many players who's talent lies in what they can do to manipulate effects creatively to create the music they want to make.

Me? I mostly just plug into an amp, but I would never discount other approaches.
