Ever put a 2203 Master Volume on 5?

Not a 2203, but I dimed my 100w SLX through a Boogie 280w Recto 4x12. Loud? You bet.
But, it was glorious. Especially when the gain and sensitivity were backed down. Played a Strat into it, and it was Blackmore’s “Made In Japan” tone.
 
I keep the master on my 2203X somewhere between 4 and 6. Running through a Powerstation though. Forgot to flip off the standby switch once. That was a short changing moment!

At between 6-7 my dr103 is consistently 120 and peaking 125-127

It's seriously painful loud

With the master up higher it just gets more distorted, that setting is like maximum clean volume territory

wow, that's instant pain man! That's an insanely loud clean, holy ear splitting!
 
Between 5 and 7 is the only way to play them. Dial back your preamp between 4 - 6 depending on the amp. That's where it is at and that is where it hangs with a Plexi. (depending on your particular amp) Unpopular opinion is that I feel 2203 and 04's take pedals easier than Plexi and Superleads do at that volume. They are less particular. IMO of course.
 
I haven't cranked a Marshall that loud, but I did crank a Budda Superdrive 80 way up years ago when I worked at Guitar Center. It almost blew the cabinet up and all the snare wires in the drum department were rattling against the skins. It was glorious.

I have an SD80 from the early 00's, and it stupid loud. As loud or louder than any 100W I've ever owned. They got some nerve listing it at 80W. :LOL:

I had searched for an SD80 for years after I worked at GC but had to get an SD45 from a dude up the road in Nashville. It sounded great and I loved it; even bought it back along with the 2 cabinets a year or so after I sold it, but I still HAD to have an SD80. About a year ago, when I was living in Maine, I found a guy in Virginia I think it was selling one and bought it from him. I've only been able to play it for a few seconds at a SUPER low volume just to make sure all the knobs and switches worked, but look forward to the day when I really get to play it.

I run it with a PS100 these days, and it's killer. Wait till you can open it up! :cheers:

Yeah, i have one. I measured it. But not recently. It's loud. Where did you measure?

Once i had a Tech measure one of my 2203x back then and it measured 70 Watt. He put KT88 in it. Bias set to 30 ma. Then it had 100 Watt.

I guess it's well over 120db in front of the Amp as well.
 
Not a 2203, but I did take my old Metaltronix M1000 up to 10 once, just to feel what it would do.

Shook my insides and outsides, and you could smell the speakers cooking. Which is why I did it with someone else's cab. haha
