People can critique current country (male and female) all they want, but who is sitting at home behind a keyboard and who is making the money? I promise that if almost any one of us was offered a chance to play as a touring musician for one of these bands and make a good paying career of it, we would love that country music haha

I've spent time in a studio in Nashville with top flight studio/touring musicians and I can tell you for a fact that they tour with big acts for the money and the money only. Those guys hated the music they were playing. They were very cynical and I could tell they didn't even like to play anymore but had to to make a living.
It was sad.

I only recently got back into country... Jason Aldean and other more rock oriented stuff is my preference over the weaker stuff... I can see guys hating life being stuck playing for Miranda Lambert or Kelly Pickler or something like that... But there is some SICK musicianship coming out of the more rock oriented groups.

I am a metal guy through and through, enjoy blues and country though also and if I were to have an opportunity to make some bux playing in a country band, I wouldn't bat an eyelash. I agree that current country isn't the same as it was in the 80s or 90s but that doesn't make it bad. I could say the same thing about Metallica... Or metal in general... It's progressed in different ways. It is what it is. I don't get why people have to slam it just because it isn't what it use to be...

I walked my dog in the forest today and for fun, I made up 3 country songs on the spot using the aformentioned lyric staples plus a few of my own.. I added "shot of jack" and "two best buds" and i was amazed at how easy it was to write a hit... no wonder these guys keep turning this shit out, it's the easiest form of a hit you can make! Just give your accent a little twang and you are good to go!

I don't like modern country, but at least they are using instruments for the most part to make the music.

If you want to hear some truly awe full music, google country rap. Yes its cRAP.

The problem with that argument is that you assume to know what "almost any one of us" would do in that situation. Money is not the point for every player.
As a younger man I played lead guitar in a country/rock band, whose namesake went on to a whole lot of grammy nominations, and CMA awards. Everything was great during rehearsals, and though I'm not a country player, I enjoyed it, because I was brought in for the purpose of applying my Blues based Hard rock style to covers as well as originals. The enjoyment ended at the first gig, because out came the cowboy hat and the fucking ridiculous exaggerated accent. Add to that an unrehearsed duet with an equally cheesy female vocalist(I use the term loosely) and I was seething by the time it was over. I would have never joined had I known he was going to pull that shit.I couldn't get my gear loaded fast enough. Never answered any calls from them after that. I can't concentrate on playing when the front man is doing his best to embarrass himself and the band. Saddest thing is that the crowd loved it. No amount of money is worth that to me.I don't regret walking away from that at all.

I couldn't have said it better myself. When my heart is not in what I'm playing, as BB King says "The thrill is gone". Money will only buy you trouble if you are unhappy. How many musicians have we seen fall victim to the almighty dollar, and pay the ultimate price? I'll pass, thank you.

I wish people would take the "He/she makes bank, you'd do it too" or "Where's your million dollar home and world tour?" or "where's your shredtastic video of your skills" and shove it right up there ass. Put it to bed. What does it have to do with appreciating or discriminating against what hopefully may still be art. It's the snake eating it's own tail. If you reduce it all to they make money therefore it's worthy then you can't argue on the other hand about artistic integrity in any music. If we want originality/diversity and soul back in our mainstream music we need to throw the measuring stick of wealth and fame out the goddamn window. It's for sheep and assholes. I say mainstream because, sure, you can find anything on the internet. But if it can't sustain itself "reasonably" it's gone in no time. The late 80's was just as bad with L.A pop metal. Headbanger's Ball around 89-90 was just awful. One poodle after the other. First with the rocker, then 2nd with the Ballad (or was it the other way around?) The formula was locked in tight. Maybe country will break free or have it's own Nirvana moment. Now that would be something cool.....Well until 5 years after when everyone is copying whatever that was.

I guess it has been 20 years since the Garth Brooks/Billy Ray Cyrus nightmare began. I think that they call this "Purgatory".
