Evh phase 90….

How did he use it? I just got one and I literally never paid attention to how he used one… loop or out front? Is there a sweet spot on it? Thanks….
 
Preference.

It's easiest to think of it as just an eq that reverses phase and sweeps it along the spectrum, so it makes sense to run it up front with wah, eq, and pitch effects somewhere.

However.

I like it after the boost and dirt. When you boost into a phaser, you get a thicker swirl. Some modern phasers have controls to get this effect without a boost in front, like wet/dry controls or feedback controls. With a Phase 90 though, I always put it after the dirt. I never messed with the EVH version. YMMV. Experiment and find out.
 
Exactly what these guys are saying. Put it right after your boosts. I've found that the 11 oclock spot get me closest to EVH stuff and my chuggy stuff. It is probably one of the easiest set and forget pedals.
 
Supposedly he ran it out front, that’s where I run mine. On my board, it’s right after the tuner, before the dirt pedals.

It’s my favorite phaser, I like the more subtle setting, from the push button.

I'm thinking he ran most everything out front (at least in the early days) as his amps did not have loops.

Also, I think @JackBootedThug has an earlier Phase 90 that doesn't have the 'Script' push button like the MXR EVH Phase 90 I have and assuming you are also referring to.

Mine has the "Script" button on the top left that is supposed to make it sound like the vintage Phase 90 with script cursive font. I can't tell a different TBH. And it has been so long since I've tried it before my boost pedals, I should try that again as people are mentioning it.
 
Mine is in front of amp before overdrive pedals. Sounds better to me that way.

In front.. That's one pedal I always felt sounded like shit in the loop, (or atleast didn't sound "right"). I always ran in front, and I think the majority does as well.

Bro I never even tried it out other than to see it powered on. I boxed it up and sent it to another Rigtalk homie. Shipped it out today….😂

You know that is not a bad overdrive at all. Wayne’s screamer hits the front end harder and it’s quieter but the Mxr gets a lot hairier when you crank the gain knob. Wayne should do one. It’s pretty nice imo

Yeah, the Classic is a GT-OD re-housed for Musician's Friend/GC. I already have a Wylde OD, but I use the GT-OD for my Tubescreamer variant. It works great with anything 6L6. It's crunchier and fatter than a TS9.
 
The Wylde OD I had was way too noisy for me. I've been on a noise reduction hunt for about 5 years now though :lol:
