EVH pickup rabbit hole

Vintage MM1300, confirming the video Ossie Ahsen did a while back. Nails the tone, the clank, the gain, and the feel.
That's what my ears tell me from both of those videos and my own personal experience. I have a MM1400 and it nails that fuzz quality, clank, gain and feel here in my guitar and my amp setup all this even without EVH coming to my house and playing my setup. I'm sure people will hear things differently but I have been on the EVH tonequest for a long time now and the MM1400/1300 is the only pickup that cover's VH1 so perfectly IMHO.

I also have a MM1300 but I have not felt the need to try it out because I like the 1400 so much.

I love my SD model78 EVH 9K pickup and it sound great but I does not nail VH1 as perfectly as the MM1300/1400 does. The Model 78 is more VHII and 1984 IMHO and I think the SD59B is Diver Down all day long. YMMV

What are the DCR/magnet specs for the MM1300 and MM1400? I liked the old Dimarzio in Ossie's shootout too. While I love the VH1 tone I'm looking for a more VHII-ish or FW-ish tone coming out of the speaker cab...usually.

MM1400 is 9K, mine measures almost 10K ohms on my multimeter. I actually would have liked it to measure closer to 9K maybe 8.5K.
MM1300 is 13K I've read the new ones measure in the 15K range.

Both use a huge oversized ceramic magnet in the MM1300/1400.

The vintage SD in Ossie Ahsen video also gets close to the MM IMHO, that was the second pickup I was referring to. The new oness not so much.

Vintage Dimarzio SD resistance is around 13K

Mind you the MM1300 was essentially a clone of the Dimarzio Super Distortion,I'm not sure if the SD used bondable coil wire like MM uses.

For VHII or FW I'd say the SD 78 model all day long or something similar to the 78 specs. I believe the A-2 magnets provide the warmth and softened attack you hear on VHII, FW and 1984.

MM1300/1400 possibly a Dimarzio SD is all over VH1 and WACF IMHO....

Yeah I'm digging the Jalen Origin ('78) and I already liked the Jalen Pinnacle (~14k/A2 Franky) in the Floyd-equipped Kramer in my avatar. But I recently got one of his hybrids (one coil of each) that scottosan mentioned in my Explorer and its really great too. Maybe the best of all 3. But that guitar sounded great with the stock 500T but it just wasn't compatible with my other guitars...and I'm a pickup whore. :loco:

Agreed completely with every bit of this.

Little bit of Ed's '59 LP on Fair Warning, most probably (solo on PCTS).
