I'm currently looking to get a Wolfgang Special Stealth. Those who have played one, what are the major differences between the made in China/Japan ones and the made in Mexico ones?

Also, I trying to decide whether to go for a hardtail or a Floyd Rose model. Are the tonal differences in the hardtail very noticeable?

Funny played a few today and I can tell you that the China aren't aweful but not great but the Mexi ones feel solid and play awesome, as far as floyds go I don't like floyds so Im hardtail all the way, I played 2 floyd models today and the mexi almost felt like my MM neck, I think the nut width on the stealth is 1 5/8 but correct me if im wrong but it felt it...

I had a Mx Stealth, FR bridge. Loved it for the most part..other than the neck felt so super thin, i worried (maybe not needing to) about stability. Of course i've not read or heard anything negatively about the stability of the Mx WG. Oh, and there seemed to be an unusual "cracking" sound when i dived the bridge....could've just been that guitar, and not an example of all Mx Wg's.

Never have played a China made, FWIW.

I own a Japanese one and now a Mexican made one. They are both great guitars but the frets are very different and give the necks a vastly different feel! If you like the small stainless frets get the Japanese model but if you like jumbo frets get the Mexican made one. They are both great guitars but a couple of the differences are:

mim one has a carved flame top
The inside of the body is painted on the mim model and unpainted on the Japan
the Japanese model has two low friction pots and the mim one only has the volume as low friction

Other than that they are about the same:
same Floyd Rose (both have rock solid tuning)
necks feel about the same (except for the frets)

one thing i noticed is that the Mexican one is a much "brighter" sounding guitar.
I have a Duncan JB in the Japanese one and tried a Jb in the mim one and it was terrible sounding until i changed the magnet to an Alnico2

I love both of mine and wouldn't get rid of either one but have to say the Jumbo frets are growing on me. The little stainless ones can feel very slippery at times...lol

I wonder which neck feels closest to my Peavey Wolfgang. I love the feel of that neck.

The EVH neck shape feels slimmer than the Peavey in my experience. If you love the Peavey neck maybe you should look at a Peavey Wolf Special?

The EVH neck is a little slimmer front to back and the Peavey feels wider to me. Still nice though. Bigger frets too.

If you're thinking about the Stealth be aware that the frets are tiny...took me a while to get used to them as all my other guitars have jumbo frets. They're badass guitars though.

Neck reminds me of a Charvel, but maybe a touch smaller. Shape is similar, feel is similar. Frets on the Special HT (MIJ and MIC) are stainless vintage frets. Smaller, but love that stainless feel! The only difference I noticed between the MIJ and MIC is a little attention on the fret ends - the MIC weren't as nicely rounded as the MIJ. Beyond that , pretty much identical to my hands.

Love the oiled feel. If you like the Charvel Pro Mods, it's pretty much the same on the EVH Special HT.

I've he 3 of them, FWIW. Very consistent.

My Japanese Wolfgang special is f'n awesome. I play it more than my EBMM axis. The axis has a rounder/ fatter neck shape and quality is better than the wolf, but for some reason, the EVH is the guitar I always play first. I've been thinking of getting the Arched top special. Besides the frets, does it sound any different than the flat top version?

Shipped this morning, dude is gonna love it. Monster guitars.
