1.) should the body be made out of one piece of wood or 2? as in a sepaerate top and back.

2.) what are the tonal properties of black limba, black walnut, bubinga, and cocabola?

Cocobolo sounds similar to Rosewood, it's mainly a fretboard wood. Black Limba/Korina is supposed to sound like mahogany with more mids. Walnut sounds very much like maple, very bright.

In terms of pieces, I'd guess two (luthier stuff isn't my forte) because that would definitely keep your chances of having woods with knots and that stuff lower.
