What are some of your favorite OD pedals with the 20th Shiva? Before you say it doesn't need a boost.........to me for solo's it's just a tiny bit short on saturation for those liquidy leads. I can get by without a boost but sometimes I'm wanting just a little more. I'm using a BB Preamp right now with the level up and gain low but I think it woofs the tone a little. After making some adjustments I was getting better results but I've only had the amp for a few days.

Anyone use the Suhr KoKo boost?

I use a Monsterpiece STUD (Klon Klone) with my 20th XTC. Amazing pedal in terms of attack, dynamics and harmonics it can add.

I remember someone mentioning before that they replaced their Xotic BB preamp with a Zvex Box of Rock and it kills with the Shiva. Worth a shot maybe.

Another go round with the 20th?

Yup. I liked the last one I had, I think it had 88's in it, this has 34's. I like it without a boost but still always want just a little bit more. But if I showed up to play somewhere and my pedalboard was gone I'd be ok. With the last few Mesa's I owned they are unplayable for me without boosting them.

Got home from work early and CRANKED IT. When the master is halfway and the channel volume is around 10-11 Oclock it's LOUD but damm it sounds killer. The amp really wakes up with volume and I can see why some say it doesn't need a boost. Up loud it really doesn't. It's the low playing at night when it does. I'm basically trying to get that sound of it when it's loud at a more manageable level. How does a hot plate work with it?

I been using a Zen Drive lately. The Lovepedal version. I liked it better than the regular tube screamer choices.
Guitar Center might even have them now.

Woah, it's bigfoot. How the hell are ya!!!! I really have to fix my PC because when I try and make a clip it sounds like I'm underwater, I think I'm squashing my processor but gotta get it fixed since I prefer audio clips over video.

I used to have a 20th Shiva and used a couple different options that all sounded pretty good: Maxon OD808 (not bad), Mesa Flux Drive (really good), and Suhr Koko (also good). I would also dial the gain so I could use the onboard boost and a boost pedal. It was a fun amp but didn't seem to have enough low end for my tastes :D

MXR FET OD, MXR Badass Modified OD, Xotic BB, Sonic Edge J&J, Bogner Red, Way Huge Green Rhino and Xotic SL Drive.

I haven't found an OD that didn't work wit my 20th Shiva. However, keep in mind the 20th is ultra thick and the low end is massive. Keep that in mind when trying pedals.

maybe I had a bad tube as my triple recto had WAY more low end thump than the Shiva 20th

My Triple Rectifier and now my modified Dual Rectifier do have huge low end, but typically too much. On a Triple and Double I have to dial the lows way back. The lows on the Shiva are more where they should be, more perfect to sit in the mix, where a Recto just has way too much in the way of lows, unless you play without a bass player. Nobody needs a lot of lows unless you play bass.

Danyeo... Stoked you got a Sheevs!!

I have the 20th and never really needed an OD, but the one that seemed the gel the best was my BB Pre. It totally loves having the front end get slammed with the CAL Mk.4:23 Pro, but you already knew I was going to say that

Peace

I don't need an OD pedal with my Shiva, but none of this is about need. I WANT pedals with my Shiva cause it is fun!

The Xotic BB sounds fantastic through my Shiva's clean channel.

And there we have....

A consensus.
