Passive: Tonezone with a ceramic magnet
Active: EMG 81 9V

MCP Solution, JB, Duncan Distortion and 500t. There isn’t one pickup that suits every guitar. I have a Het Set in a 70’s LPC copy that sounds amazing but I don’t like them in any other guitars.
Ah you bought the MM Metropoulos that was on Reverb! Yes, Shea modded that one for me. It’s a beast of an amp, I hope you’re diggin it.
It arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

Is a Moser circuit with varitone considered a pickup?

I used a DiMarzio Evolution or Breed for a while. Somewhere along the line I started using Super 3's. Recently I've been taking a liking to the SD Custom Custom and Ibanez V5.

Funk'n weird. 10/6 is the name of the circuit I posted a few seconds before you came along.

Fishman Fluence KSE, Adler and Modern. Yes, I use all three. I have used most all the Duncan's, litterally all the BKP's, Suhr Aldrich, Arcane and several EMG's. Sold all the BKP and kept everything else.

Have to say I got a killer deal on a older ESP LTD for next to nothing. It has a SD JB. That is by far my favorite pickup by far.
Not too muddy not too shrill excellent string seperation. Just well balanced. Especially with higher gain amps it works like a charm.

SD Distortion, Fishman Adler, Mojotone DW Tomahawk, EMG 57/81/85/Hets - out of those it kind of depends on my ears, but most days the Mojotone's win.

I've tried a lot over the years and my current favorites are:

Motor City Afwayu
PRS Tremonti
BKP Juggernaut

Actives can be really good, but I seem to prefer the tone of passives.

It’s all very guitar dependent. I’ve mostly been using Lundgrens (black heaven and M7 depending on the guitar) for the last few years l but recently on a whim I put a JB that’s been sat in my parts bin for the last decade into a guitar that’s a bit of a ‘problem guitar’ in that its hard to get it to sound how I like. And it’s just the perfect fit for that guitar. I’ve had that same pickup in a few other guitars and not bonded but for the guitar in question it just works. very sensitive to height adjustments.

Seymour Duncan Black Winter or Gibson 500T.

This pickup has an insane amount of magnet pull. So much that it made my strings buzz on the fretboard. I spoke to another guy who had the same issue.
I didn't have that problem. Then again, I'm used to strongly magnetic pickups. I use the X2N and 500T in other guitars guitar.

Bill Lawrence/Wilde L500 & L90

Bill Lawrence pickups are a hidden gem. I put a set of L90's in a bass on Becky's recommendation when looking for something tight and punchy, and it sounds awesome. I really need to get a set to drop in one of my guitars.

L500xl or a 498T. I like medium output pickups for high gain to retain clarity. Ialso like the Duncan custom a lot.

I have to say unless I was playing the BLUSA L500XL(and it was flipped) into my compete Dime setup it was thin sounding and not pleasant at all into my Marshall's. It was killer for Dime stuff and that was it. Maybe the Bill and Becky Wilde L500XL has a fuller low end I have one but haven't installed it yet.

What caught my ear was the new Wes Hauch Jupiter 6 pickups and to my ears is like an L500XL with more clarity and fuller low end that's still tight. I bought one of these as well but have not installed it because the guitar is not built yet but I'm looking forward to hearing it.
