which are your favorite unboosted tones? i will start

Testament - The Gathering / Triple Recto

Was "Working Man" by Rush boosted with anything? That's a killer tone.

Ty Tabor’s recto toanz on Dogman.
miT Mahoney of 311.
Ian Thornley
Vernon Reid

It sounds like absolute dogshit. I honestly thought it was a joke when I first heard it.

I completely agree... however, if you listen critically, the vocals on the new one DO sound amazing though. If those vocals had been on the old version, they would’ve gone much farther than they did, not that they haven’t gone far, but I firmly believe with those vox the album ( original) would’ve been far bigger than it already was.

5150 on the green channel believe it or not , into an Engl 4x12 with V30s. That cab is a huge huff part of that sound I can tell you that for sure. Supposedly a valvestate 8100 blended in as well, although old forum folklore was that it was an Engl savage blended in, however I guess Nordstrom has come out and said it is an 8100 blended in.

Anything by Free. Alright Now is just a ripping song for that era.

Paul Kossof was a monster player, a 1967 Superbass was only three years old at the time of that show....

On a side note Dave... I never knew Nigel Tufnel played drums for Free prior to joining Spinal Tap...... :p:D:D:D:D:lame:

Isn't Gojira all unboosted? They sound awesome.

I had an Engl Pro XXL cab that made anything plugged into it an angry metal monster. Was kind of hilarious.

If I'm not mistaken, Primal Fear - Chainbreaker, is an unboosted Engl Savage 120 with a Les Paul.
IMO, one of the best recorded heavy tones. Has just enough chewyness, next to the tight punch and overall mid clarity and definition.
