So I've been looking for a pickup for my Strat. I've cycled through several humbuckers, and while they sounded good, it wasn't quite the tone I was looking for. After seeing RazorDave's DSL/5153 video, I decided to try one of the Fender Atomic humbuckers. Low and behold this pickup is a perfect match for the 5153. You can scoop them up on the bay for less than $40. I am totally stoked by how good this pickup sounds with my rig. I might have to pick up another one for my Schecter. It just kills. I'll try to get a video up soon. But man, this thing just sounds great!

Can you compare it to something? High output, medium output, etc.

The one I installed metered out around 16k ohms. It reminds me of a better balanced JB, with the mid range growl of an Aldrich. It has a slightly bigger bottom end than the JB, but isn't muddy. It uses an Alnico 5 magnet. Its a high output pickup that actually cleans up well when you roll the volume off. I really dig it, and am thinking about picking up another one off of the bay. I can not get over how well it pairs with my 5150III. It just screams through this amp.

I'm pretty sure this is the same humbucker that Fender refers to by different names depending on what guitar it's in. If my assumptions are correct, this is the same humbucker that Fender uses in most of their guitars with humbuckers. It's about 16k, and uses an Alnico 5 magnet. It is a pretty cool pickup. It's sort of JB-ish. It's less susceptible to the piercing high mids, and flubby lows that the JB can have sometimes. It can have a certain "hollow" and/or "plinky" sound to the attack. Pretty cool pickup that might get talked about more if it were made by a Duncan or Dimarzio.

Fantastic bridge pickup. Sort of like a Rio BBQ and Duncan JB blended together. I don't hear it as being super hot either, great clean tones and split tones as well! :)

I was using the Fender Diamondback which Fender uses in most of their humbucker strats but that had the plinky tone when palm muting. The Atomic is better in this regard.

DUDE!!! You're BACK!!!!
\:D/

Probably closer to the EVH Wolfgang pickup, since Fender makes the EVH Wolfgang and they both use alnico 5 magnets DC res. is close.

Hmmm, yanked the one from my Strat. Thought it sounding blurry, undefined, loose. Really hot though.

The Atomic sounds very clear and rich, great note definition, but I ended up ordering a Duncan 59/Custom trembucker.

I have one in my ash strat.
Reminds me of a (not much) less precise Norton.
Medium output. But a hot medium.

Would that be the bridge pup that's in the modern player tele by chance?

Everyone is telling me that you can't install a Duncan Trembucker into a Fender HSS strat like mine since the screw holes will not line up without modification. True? I see Duncans you can use with the 3 screw configuration, but maybe they do not line up.

Shouldn't be an issue. All the Duncans I have seen including trembuckers, have three holes so you can do the 2 on the top and one on the bottom like many strats have. And if you really want, you can get a killer pickguard from GFS that have the standard 2 hole mount significantly less than the over priced fender brand.

People say the Duncans are not aligned like the Fenders. I ordered a Fender Atomic and a 500K pot so we shall see!
