I post my personal findings from actual real hands on experience (I have played well over 20 EJs) and it hurts someones feelings so now Im spewing bullshit. Not all the EJ's Ive played were crap a few were even good but the vast majority of them were sloppy fretwork, setup, finish flaws, etc. I have seen more of these than any other sig model since they came out so they are obviously pumping them out.
Ive played about 5 or so Yngwies all had good fretwork, nut etc. no finish problems. Not setup like a suhr or anything but all very playable right off the shelf. So there is my bullshit.
There is absolutely no reason for me to hype up the YJM or down th EJ, just posting my objective opinions as a player and luthier.
There's no feelings hurt here, I couldn't care less about what you think of me personally, or whatever guitar I own or like. What I find ridiculous is your statements and insinuation that YJM's are built better than the other signature models which are built in the same plant. It's not like we're talking Strat Vs Tele or Strat Vs Les Paul, or even Signature Strat Vs Standard, it's two similarly priced Sig guitars built at the same place. I've played about as many of each as you claim, and I haven't seen any of the glaring differences you refer to. Since you were talking about your personal guitar, maybe you got one of the exceptional ones? As far as setup, my EJ is one of the exceptional ones, I prefer it over most of the others I've played even though it has an area on the back where overspray didn't get buffed out correctly. The YJM's had as many flaws or faults though, I'd rather have some overspray on the back, than to have the nut set too far to the treble side where the high E string falls off the neck.
I have no axe to grind either, I have an EJ now, but I like the specs on the YJM and I'll probably be looking into buying one sometime in the next year or two. I fully expect it to be as good as the EJ I have now, but I'm not delusional enough to think I'm going to be able to expect an absolutely perfect guitar with it either. The only signature strat I've been overly impressed with on the QC was the early 90's SRV Strat I had about 6 years ago, I should have kept it, and I've heard the new ones are built as well. Then again, if I thought like you, I'd assume that all the early ones are great because the one I had was...
