Maybe you've come across further info regarding Fishmans Fluence pickups? (5 years later...)??
I went on an upgrade spree with my BC rich, looking to reduce hum from a nasty apartment wiring system.
I heard things about the Moderns that included people not liking the single coil sound - maybe Fishman is doing things better now with their most recent series. I couldn't tell if the Townshend, or for that matter, the Abasi, were as quiet or to my liking. The Abasi seems to only include a bridge single coil sound MIXED with the neck single coil sound - I preferred to have both (which I may have been able to wire, but in that case which may have resulted in less hum reduction than I was hoping for - that hum reduction being one of my main goals, without losing the versatile sound I have now.
Unfortunately I don't think the Fishman website or videos are that much upgraded - I may have purchased the Townshend if I had a better grasp of weather its "chaotic" bridge voicing somehow affected both, and whether it was as versatile as what I have now (which is a Fred humbucker so it may have been similar, but sometimes I was tired of the Fred not fitting the varied available presets others have created, and needing to meticulously dial in every sound specifically for them, on my Fractal Axe FX II.
I'm pretty sure the Modern isn't versatile enough to do good at both heavy metal & classic rock. But I'd love to try the Townshend on some otehr guitar - my main guitar has a 24 5/8 scale which I'm very used to and allows stretches that are uncomfortable on other guitars. I'd hate to lose versatility on it.
Being that I felt safer with their classic sound, I opted for the McRocklin artist series set, since it seemed like pretty much an Open Core Classic set but with a few tweaks in the single coils that I felt I might like. Also it was a recent set, and some have complained about still getting hum on some of the previous set's single coil settings.
I'd love to hear something from your updated knowledge.
