Floyd on a Les Paul = Sacrilege?

Tone is in the ossicles. I used to have a Les Paul Shred, but then it turned into another Explorer. Crazy how the Explorer is so much lighter on average given it's pig-ish size. Wait, what were we talking about again? Oh yeah, Herman Li was playing a pink PRS tonight. What the Hell is wrong with the world?

A FR on an LP didn’t work for me. The bar always seemed to be in the way if the bridge volume pot. I always had to do an uncomfortable reach around

Had a couple axcesses and a lifeson
Love the floyd but does sound a bit different than a traditional les paul

I had the same issue. With the volume knob that is, not reach arounds. That’s a whole other thing..I think

not a Gibson but the ESP Gary Holt series are pretty cool!

One of the nicest Les Pauls I’ve ever played, made by anybody, was the purple Floyded Paul that Lee Garver / GMW built for Kage. That’s a completely over the top killer guitar.

A buddy had a Floyd put on his Explorer. He said it ruined the guitar and sold it.

Tone is sort of a moving target. Does it sound 100% like a Les Paul with a tunamatic, probably not, can it sound just as good albeit different, sure thing. I even dig the early-mid 80s style LPs with Kahlers, a nice change of pace from all the Floyd guitars and more of its own thing.

Here's mine - a BFG tremolo has the same stud spacing as an original Floyd. Add the locking nut and a big block and it's a great (and cheap!) Floyd Paul.

Doesn’t the Alex lifeson model have a Floyd? No idea if they make that one anymore
I was going to ask if anyone ever played that. They all got bought up right away, I have never seen one in perspn

I owned an Alex Lifeson LP (an Axcess) for about a hot minute. I play Jackson Soloists and Dinkys pretty much exclusively. Never got on with any LP, though not for lack of trying.

Had a white Les Paul custom. As an avid Rhoads fan I really wanted to make the guitar work for me. Did. Not. Happen. Guitar sat in the case untouched for several years then I moved it on down the road.

Then I thought the LP Axcess with a Floyd might work and I got one. I wanted to bond with it. Tried to will myself into accepting it. A week later it was gone.

Nothing wrong with the guitar. Had the Floyd, traditional pickups as well as graphtec ghost piezo/electric saddles. Beautiful looking guitar. The bar does get in the way of the knobs. Which are volume, tone, and piezo control.

I like a guitar with a bit more tension on the strings than Les Pauls provide. Can I play a Les Paul effectively? Yes. Do I enjoy playing a Les Paul as much as one of my Jacksons? Not as of this point in time, and since I no longer play profressionally there is nothing to make me push through it. Would I like to enjoy playing a Les Paul? Yes I would. I just prefer a guitar that pushes back a bit more.

With all that said, sacrilege? Nah. If it works for you rock one of those bitches and don’t gaf what anyone else thinks!
