Focusrite bumming me out

I used the 1st Gen 18i8 for quite a while and it never failed me (previously a 1st Gen, Motu Ultralite which was also great). A couple of months ago I got an 8i6 because I needed more outputs. Soundwise, great. But it used a newer (to me) routing software than the 1st Gen 18i8, called Control. Within no time at all I fucking hated this software. Hate it.
Sold the 8i6 and the OG 18i8 recently (thanks Reverb) because 4th Gen came out with Control 2 and it looked like it might be better. But Focusrite doesn’t have any model above a 4i4 coming out in 4th gen (at least for now), so no model with ADAT expansion capability or enough in’s and out’s. Really wanted a 4th gen 18i8 or 18i20.
I’ll probably get a Motu Ultralite MKV now as their software looks a lot more useable but it only has two mic ins (plenty of line in and out is though) so will need to use external mic pre’s (which might be fun anyway). But of course is more expensive. I checked out the Roland Octa but don’t care for having to scroll through channels to make settings. I don’t get Focusrite at all on this. Not one model that can either expand or have built in enough in’s/out’s for 4th gen and the newer software. Has anyone used Control 2? Is it even any better or just shit with a prettier topping?

I really hate 1st world problems….💁‍♂️

I hate technology. They make shit too hard now. You can't just plug into anything and it works without app updates, giving them your life's history, etc.

You’d prefer to maintain a tape machine?
I actually would if all things were equal in that all parts, reference tapes etc. were still readily available. I had an Otari 1/2 inch 8 track in the 90’s and two different 16 tracks (the Tascam and the Fostex). In several years of use only really had to setup biasing once for each machine and never had a mechanical failure. Heads on one machine got relapped once but when there’s industry around the use of those machines it’s all do-able. I never had to worry about a firmware update bricking my device or ruining functionality. And of course there’s the sound. So damn good. Don’t need external fancy pre’s and plug-in suites to try and turn a perfunctory A/D capture into something resembling the sound in our head.
I’d also rather keep a tape machine alive through simple repair than dump these little boxes into landfills.
