I'm the main songwriter in my band and the band that is now is not the same as it was with our old bass player. And he didn't write any of the songs!

That kind of different can be a good thing, though. You don't want to make the same album over and over.

If a great band is prolific and has a bunch of material under their belt, everbody identifies with the singer, and everyFREAKINbody on this forum can identify the guitar player at a glance, at least the style and attack. IMHO, you change Either of those two most identifying 'voices' in a band and it aint the same. Even if they're better..... Right or wrong, a band that has copyright hangs on to the name to pay the bills, nobody wants to start off again from the bottom, and 1/3 of the fan base comes out to simply be entertained and hear the songs, they dont give a s#!t whos playing the parts....

I saw a band on the tube last night using the name "Foreigner." They sounded very good and kept very close to the originals.

Only ONE of the members was from the original band…the guitar player.

Yeah, I'm guessing that the one original member probably has rights to the name, however, it seems wrong somehow to me that they billed themselves as "Foreigner." Only ONE original memeber...wrong, wrong, wrong! :gethim:
Lou Gramm has had a hard time with a brain tumor...a friend of mine saw Foreigner with Lou when he recovered and said he couldn't sing it anymore. Lou seemed all out of sorts. ..sad.

I saw Journey with a new singer a few years ago and it didn't seem right either.

Man, that dude is barely a shadow of his former self. He could sing his ass off. Who didn't like Foreigner IV?

So sad to see Lou like that...could happen to anyone. He's in my top five for rock singers for sure.

We make an effort not to repeat ourselves. But it's about what one guy would have done to fill out the sound versus another.

Ya know, thats a perfect example,
without getting too introspective, philosophical, Zen, gay, or anything else, the clocks' tickin down for all of us and I feel that pressure to get something musically useful done now more than ever, ya know?? who the hell knows WTF can happen to any of us at a moments notice???...
Thats why I'm dying to get this project off the ground, so I can go play covers and maybe get paid a few bucks, then get back to my dream of listening to my own CD while driving another blisteringly fast hot rod, having a really hot young rock chick whore blow me, while doin a line, high on mescaline, an hit the divider at 187 mph.
Everybodys gotta have goals......

Thanks for the link. I pulled this quote from the website...sounds positive. :D

Lou Gramm:

“I am at the point in my life where I can really enjoy the result of my many years of hard work,” says Gramm. “ I am having fun now for the first time in a long time, and I am eager to return to the studio after the current tour to start recording some new music for a couple of different album projects I have planned for the future.”

"For all of his fans, it’s the classic voice they’ve heard for decades on the radio and on their stereos; but for Lou Gramm, it’s a new musical journey that lets him rock on … with family and friends."

Honestly...who knows if you will be as good at making an album in 2 - 5 - 10 years from now.
Do it now! ...then make another.

I saw Foreigner live this past summer and they were excellent. Kelly Hansen, former singer of Hurricane, flat out rocks, incredible vocal range. I'll definitely check them out again, I only wish they would have been able to an entire set rather than the 60 min they were given.

HA! Kelly Hansen... I remember playing numerous shows with Hurricane when I was gigging in the 80s. They were good and pulled in tons of hot chicks... Fun shows for sure...

No Shit... who hasnt looked back at their own catalog, previous recordings, etc, and felt that fire, the energy, and by contrast felt that SOB Time, sneakin up, interfering with that concentration...
The difference, not even in terms of skill or technique, but simply the passion, the joy, thats in a younger man?? Times of the fkn essence....
With that thought in mind, I'll go back again to beating the crap out of the guitar in my lap while I waste more time on this forum waiting for another intersting post..... God help me.....

I know...I give you advise that I don't follow, but I know what I'm talking about!
Life gets in the way too much for me to make a CD (so far)....I was hoping you were better than me at succeeding. :D

Nah, Im workin on my own schedule, borrowing from the Gainfreak timeframe, the Procrastinators Handbook,
I'm workin on the CD now, so it should be out by 2025, give or take....

I hear what you guys are saying about time slipping away. My band started an original CD over a year ago. Everyone in the band has a family, day gig and other responsibilities. It's taking us 6 months per song. Yeah, we might have it done in 5 years or so...sucks.
