Fortin Grind vs 33... The mystery is over...

Yeah I was surprised that my Savage drive doesnt have hardly any gain on it. It does have a ton of volume though. I switched from a Friedman Buxom boost. I wish I would have kept both for variety. I need to grab another Maxon OD808 at some point. That pedal just suites me. Having said that I do love the Savage Drive but now I dont have an amp to run it through(at least for a couple more days). VFE Standout looks tempting as does the Blade.

I've been running an MXR 10-Band in front of an Airis Effects Savage Drive. Pretty killer, actually. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why people are ssking $500+ for the 33. It seems like it's nothing special.

You ever try the Savage Boost before getting the Savage Drive? Just curious... I had a Savage Boost... Loved it especially for the price (half of what a Grind costs)... BUT... it was VERY noisy... that was my only issue with it. Sold it but would get another if the noise got addressed, and Richard put the jacks in the top like he has for the v3 Savage Drive...

The Savage Drive is as quiet as a church mouse. No complaints with mine.

I have 2 Savage Drives and they are absolutely quiet as a church mouse.. Never heard a church mouse, but yea, I have many many pedals and Savage Drive is as quiet as it gets. . The other funny thing about the pedal is it has very LITTLE drive , although described as a brutal drive pedal. . It just totally tightens up certain amps and has GREAT tone. . It's made some of my amps sound much better. . An Engl Screamer, a Baron K2, a modded 70's Marshall JMP,etc. . Beautiful pedal. By the descriptions I'm thinknig it's very similar to the Standout in design with different labeling, etc. . Maybe I'm wrong
Eric

I have read that the Savage drive is Tubescreamer-based, but without clipping diodes, so it has more volume instead of gain.

I haven't confirmed that myself though.....

I'm not electronically educated enough to say, but if it is Tube Screamer based it completely is eq'd completely differently. The controls on it are absolutely great, and it's so quiet, and it boosts some clean channels much nicer than a tube screamer (eq'wise) and boosts flubby , or bass-heavy gain channels fantastically! I still have a few Tube-Screamer based fx (sold off all my real TS's after owning them many years!) , and it really doesn't sound like any of them.. hmm

Yea it's funny the way it's advertised as brutal and with the graphics, etc for such a lo-gain pedal. BUT it has completely transformed a few of my amps that I really didn't use, and it's eq'd perfectly. I really think the Standout will be similar though :)

I have no experience with the Grind or 33 but like the Blade a lot. Just posted a 7 string clip. I knew I’d want the extra controls over the fixed of the aforementioned. The Blade has helped save a guitar I was getting ready to sell. To be fair, I’ve never been a boost guy and never used an additional eq.

You should get the Standout and do a comparison video with the blade and Standout. That would be awesome and super helpful to guys here

I'll check into it. Maybe I know someone that owns one.

I think the Mr Black Electronic Instrument Preamp pedal I have is supposed to be similar to the TC integrated preamp. It has an active bass and treble eq as well as a separate preamp gain and boost. It would be cool to compare them.
