I think the Fractal Audio Axe FX II or III is a great amp & cab simulations/effects processor! You'll have to take the time to program & dial in your presets through a mixer to make it sound good live and there's a learning curve to it which requires reading the owners manual. Most guys I know who use this type of set up also have the powered FRFR cabs for live playing. As for me, I prefer using tube amp heads or combos and the Fractal Audio FX-8. I just want effects that are pre & post amp along with control over the amp's channel switching via MIDI or the relays on the FX-8, and not using the FX-8 solely as a MIDI controller over the whole guitar rig. I wanted to eliminate the guitar rack and seperate MIDI controller that I've been dealing with for years.

Do you know all the chords?

This guy...in Axe Edit, "hot-rodding" a Marshall preset...he calls it pimping his marshall, but yea.... he talks some about the Jose, Camerons, mods, brown sound, etc...

I'm sure it isn't "even close" to either of those super amps/mods, but very cool technology all the same; swap out power tubes, pres, Sat switches, bright cap...

He is on Axe III...assuming the edit software is the same(ish) on the axe II??

I'm thinking i'll go with the Rack Axe Fx..
can someone narrow down the key big differences between the Axe Fx II and the XL+? i think, mainly, it's a difference in memory, storage, etc.

please set me straight if there is more to it than this.

thanks for any help!

I know the camps are split down the middle...but have you considered the kemper?

Honeslty, no...  and for no good reason, other than, the lack of an editor on the Kemper bothers me a bit... maybe that is something that i shouldn't be deterred over? i'm not a huge tweaker... i tend to leave shit alone once i get it set up the way i like it...and when the technology is this good, i'd suspect it won't take long.

i def don't need a powered unit, so that brings it to a fairly competitive price point (compared to AxeFx)...

i've heard enough clips though, it is every bit as impressive sounding as the AxeFx....

hmmm....

Leon sounds the same on whatever he uses. I'm sure he will gush all over the Axe-3 and proclaim how much better it is but he really sounds the same as when he plays on the Axe-2. And his Marshall patches sound like his Mesa patches. Not that it's all a bad thing, he has his own sound.

This other guy gets a good modded Marshall VHish tone from an Axe-2.
