Here's an apologists take on it. While he attempts to inject ambiguity on whether or not the marriage was consumated ( come on, really) the last line leaves no doubt.

The Prophet’s marriage to Aisha was appropriate considering the circumstances of life in ancient Arabia. Their marriage was not based upon lust or abuse. But, rather upon their shared spiritual mission to deliver the teachings of Islam to humanity. She was a scholar and one of his principle disciples. She is the top narrator of the Prophet’s traditions among women and she transmitted more of his traditions than most of the male narrators. The male companions of the Prophet would go to her seeking her spiritual and religious advice. Karen Armstrong writes: There was no impropriety in Muhammad’s betrothal to Aisha. Marriages conducted in absentia to seal an alliance were often contracted at this time between adults and minors who were even younger than Aisha. This practice continued in Europe well into the early modern period. There was no question of consummating the marriage until Aisha reached puberty when she would be married off like any other girl.

With regards to difficulty having a normal conversation, it's worth noting that if you are involved it isn't going to be a normal conversation.

You make an awful lot of assumptions. For starters, I guarantee I've read the bible many more times than you have since I was raised in a religious family and went to a parochial school until 8th grade.

The problem is you erroneously base what you think I believe or condone on me not believing Jesus performed miracles or Moses actually parted the red sea.

And if you are making the argument that since I don't believe everything the bible says it's hypocritical to believe what the Quran says, I'll just say this. If Muhammed didn't exist and his documented life is fake then it's even more appalling that a shit ton of his followers want to kill YOU based on their Islamic beliefs.
