What are your general thoughts on Daves amps? Strengths and weaknesses

I bought one and sold it 3 weeks later. Different strokes for different folks.

Lots of features for tweaking. Diode clipping if you want it. Decent cleans. The BE cleans up pretty well with guitar volume. If you're into a slightly darker Jose mod, its a great amp.

I found them a bit too compressed and saturated for my tastes. Some say they are too modern, but I think that's just a different way of saying compressed and saturated.

BE - Didn't care for it.

Small Box - Loved it but sold it TWICE b/c I thought the BE for my purposes was better. I was incorrect.

I've owned multitudes of amps over the years, none of them have pleased me as much as my BE 100. The touch sensitivity, the master volume, the feel of the notes, the tone options, this amp allows you to really hear the nuances of your instrument! I would buy this amp again in a heart beat. :)

Just curious, which 'one'? There are several Friedman products.

If we're counting the Brad King/Tone Merchants/Cameron Amplification line, I'll never sell my Atomica.

You just cant go wrong with a Smallbox and a good OD pedal.

It was the BE 100

I love my be 100 , it's slightly darker and smoother than a Marshall but still has that flavour to it if that's your thing . Only thing I wasn't happy about what the lack of a second master volume for lead boosts .

After owning many amps that have this feature (including the Peters I currently own), I greatly prefer a good EQ in the loop over a second master. Dial in not only a volume bump, but also a gain bump to get a little more sustain and ease in the feel. Also address any EQ concerns going from rhythm lines to lead lines.

Where the second master does work for me is matching the clean output to distorted outputs more easily.

Yer not a massive problem and I agree can be boosted with an eq or clean boost pedal in the loop , but for the price that's the only extra thing I would have personally liked as I'm not a massive fan of boosts in the fx loop, also bit of a hassle with cables when your also using reverb and delay .

Love my BE100. Love the BE channel. Only gripe is the master in th eback if you use the loop which is always for me.
I don't use the switches, mainly BE for rhythm and HBE for leads.
I play it through a Greenback loaded Marshall cab.

The amp kills line through the Two Notes torpedo live. The main comment I get from people when I play out is "Don't touch anything!!".

So I'm happy.

BE100 is the sound in my head. Only took 30 years to find it. Cleans up really nice with volume knob. Sounds essentially the same with the master on 1 as it does at jamming volumes. the FX Loop is the most transparent loop i have heard. I can't tell the difference. All the tone controls are very sensitive in a good way.

I don't find it dark in the slightest. I replaced my old 2203 with it and, while the 2203 was brighter for sure, it was to a fault IMO.

I have a BE-100 and its just an incredible amp even at tv volumes, would love to try the smallbox but I'm getting really nice plexi type crunch on the BE channel by keeping the gain low and working the guitar volume, my LP & strat sound phenomenal.

Had a Dave-modded Metro. It had a BE, SAT, C45, Simple Clean, and Metro loop. Hands down the best amp I ever owned. Had a little "hiss" to it, but not excessive considering the amount of gain on tap. Sold it...GAS.

That said, I get the BE, HBE, Smallbox, and Dirty Shirley with the Axe-Fx. I use the HBE mainly, and I literally have hundred of "amps" to choose from. As mentioned before, it's the "sound in my head", and it never disappoints.

I have a JJ, BE, & SS. Very special amps. Wouldn't trade them for the world. I really don't play my Cameron's much anymore...

I have Marsha #35 and it still does it for me...only GAS I've had is for a NMV plexi (just to try it) and a newer BE100 to see if it's that different.

I don't get the dark comments, because I think it can get stupid bright if you crank the mids and treble, but maybe cause mine is older.

I only gig with the BE channel and a koko, but I'll play around with the switches when I'm bored. Back off the gain, turn on the C45 mode with a good amount of volume and a strat...so nice.

If I was buying new I'd probably get a smallbox as I always have a little delay in the loop and they say it's a little more vintage sounding.

I think Dave is a genius... and a great guy to boot. He knows his shit and puts out GREAT amps! I can't afford to play them anymore these days.... but I would take any of his line in a 2nd and not look back.

This.

Plus, Dave's customer care is second to none. Ever music company should take note of his communication with customers. He doesn't care if you're total novice or 30 year stadium world touring vet, he is equally polite and proper with ever Friedman amp owner. Seriously, he treats you damn near equal to the guys that have signature amps built by him.
