I don't know man, something else is going on. Most of the factory presets sound decent into monitors or headphones with adjustments of gain to taste.
Was this a used unit? You might want to reset it or check that there aren't any global parameters tweaked.
It's brand new from Fractal, with the latest firmware installed by Fractal. Haven't done a reset; but the only global parameters that I changed are the input level and output EQ.

FAS hasn’t updated their factory presets since like firmware 18 or something and they are on 27 now. To be honest, when I first tried an Axe FX I wasn’t impressed by the factory presets. Once I started making my own, things got a lot better for me. Don’t overlook the impedance curve in the amp block. That has a big change to the sound when using IRs.

Yeah, the factory presets are very behind the firmware updates at this point, and the last several updates really changed the low end. I think the low end got cleaned up a lot, but there is also more naturally available.

Switching the global EQ from graphic to parametric and cutting the lows and highs at my chosen frequencies worked!

The factory presets sound normal and some even very good, great and usable. Should be the default setting out-of-the-box IMO.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and input!

I've been running the EV-PXMs for almost a year and half now and haven't looked back. They sound great, have a lot of DSP options built into them and are easy to take around for live and rehearsals.

I've never been able to bond with FRFR and wish I could. Just sounds so distant to me.

I use QSC CP12's with my FM9T.

Usually one, but two for spread in bigger bars.

Sounds amazing. Even hard-core tube diehards have complemented my tones...

Do you use the global output EQ on your output (1,2,..)? Switching it from Graphic to Parametric, and cutting at the frequency points I choose made a big difference.

I don't use any separate EQ's

I just adjust the frequency roll offs on my cab IRs and then copy them into other presets.
