I like signature amps! I like it when artists give their own spin on things. The Friedman JJ JR (Jerry Cantrell) is a great rock amp with an awesome high gain mode so it's also suited for metal although it's probably not the most mean metal amp out there. It really has that signature Friedman tight crunch and the clean channel is great too. It's 20 watts and has 2 EL84s in the power section.
We all know the MT15. It's pretty legendary by now. Clean channel and a high gain channel. The clean channel is very sparkly and fender-y and the lead channel is just very modern and more metal oriented than the JJ JR. This one has 6L6 powertubes so it does have more headroom and girth at higher levels.
I wanted to compare these amps with a solid guitar, both clean and high gain, so I chose my Les Paul Custom. I think both amps sound great but I'd love to know your thoughts. Which one would you pick? Here's the comparison:
