Friedman pedals and hiss.

I'm using a One-Spot but I don't have hiss. Mine is more like the kind of noise you get when something isn't grounded. Mine is more of a buzzing. If I tap the cords, I get a "bzzt, bzzt, bzzt", etc. Could be my cords, electrical in house, One Spot, etc. Funny thing is that pedal sounds so great that I could care less about the noise. :)

Here is a video of the hiss. Amp is set to clean. As you can see, I have the internal trim pot set to 25%. I matched all of the pedal for gain and volume as well. The BE-OD is almost twice as noisy as the other pedals. Too bad, since I really like it a lot. I'll probably keep it too.

Yeah that's more than the usual amount of hiss.

Is returning it to the store in exchange for a new one an option?

Wayyyyy more noise than the one I have...you may have a bad one.

Of course you tried a BUNCH of different power supplies?

I'm using a regular boss 9 volt power supply that works perfectly with all other pedals. I tried two different ones including 18 volts.

The first one I bought at GC was pretty hissy like yours with the trim pot around 9 o'clock so I returned it . I bought one of the limited editions BEODs from Sweetwater and its a lot quieter

Perhaps the guys that are not hearing noise or hiss are playing at mousefart volumes   Would not surprise me, Dave you seem to have your clean amp set for some pretty good volume.

I am running my smallbox to the absolute maximum on the clean ch before it gets distorted and i have no issues with my pedal. Plus i sit very close to my amp and pedal board and torpedo live which you would think would amplify everything.

I'm set for a little louder than TV volume.

It's not just the BE-OD. The SIR is just as noisy. That's why I made a comparison video.

I'll be the first to admit, the BE-OD and SIR are great sounding pedals. I really like it, but the noise floor is damning. These were both bought for me by a friend from a small dealer, so there is no refund...

Yeah, I get noise similar to that. The pedal sounds so good though, I think it is worth using a noise gate, messing with other 9 volts, etc.

I wonder why some people have dead quiet ones and a few of us have noisy ones? That is actually a good thing because down the road they might be able to pin down what component might be causing it and fix it. You know Dave. The next version will have a built-in noise gate, an HBE switch, and a "grind" switch. :)

Yeah, maybe we got shit ones?

Why not get it right the first time. It's bad enough they have had multiple updates to their production amps...i.e. the BE100.

Again, I think the BE-OD is a great pedal. If it were more quiet I consider it one of the best pedals I've played. As it stands now, the hiss is a major issue for me and renders it inferior compared to my Timmy and Cusack screamer.

That video does seem a bit excessive but my Timmy is relatively quiet compared to some other pedals.

Just curious but have you ever played an old Marshall Shredmaster? I thought they sounded pretty good but the excessive hiss was a major buzzkill. Just wondering if it is comparable hiss to that.

I've never played a shred master.

I did find the Archer Icon to be very noisy as well. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. I think the BE-OD is better sounding than the Archer for me needs though.

THIS

Friedman has the most hands on, arguably best costumer support.

Necro revival!

My BE-OD did have a squeal. But my board is in pre-build; while things are getting sorted, I have a temporary 9v daisy chain running to my power supply which turned out to be the culprit. Not only is the Friedman pedal sharing power; it's sharing with:

- A 1x1 midi controller pedal
- Which is in the FX loop! (The BE-OD is in front of the amp)

Daisy chaining 9v power is bad enough; in my rig at least, sharing power between front of amp and FX loop is exponentially fraught- a BIG no-no!

I've only had the BE-OD about 10 days. I considered returning it until identifying the problem. I run my 2204 with slight overdrive, then use the Friedman pedal for entry to the promised land. In this setup, the pedal really is noisy and hissy beyond belief. Which sucks, but at least a noise gate can mitigate it. Aside from the noise, it sounds great.
