I tend to buy and sell way too many heads. As a result I received my 3rd SB Friday. I knew the Plexi ch is more aggressive than the BE dlx (owned 2) In any case I have been dialing in more crunch single coil tones lately like this

I like the high gain channel more than the BE. More aggressive.

Im confused - i never got that much gain out of ch1 on the smallbox aka “the plexi channel” …… oh im posting as i watch - ur using a pedal and dialing back the bass - now i get it — wait - 2 pedals?? Oh ok makes me feel better…

As you can hear the mid boost just adds that layer of mids that can be missing in a Friedman. Pedal goes way back. Just got the Friedman Golden pearl last night to replace the digital OD's in the HX. Much better. This method then allows me to use ch 2 for solos and if the new band does a VH song or something I wan tot get into hard humbucker rock territory

Thanks, here is the Golden pearl with mid boost for the ultimate crunch tone. Way better than the sterile digital OD's in the HX Fx unit.

Yes, HX FX only for effects and to: change amp channels, add some reverb and delay and maybe a phaser. not Fractal quality but good enough

Yes but it's still a 20w el84 tube based amp so it can't be a 50w head. Volume is there but smaller iron/transformers will never have that punch but it's close. The PT v2 voicing is raw and has plenty of mids!

Well i trust your ear more than my own (im a hack), plus u own them both currently.

I owned a ww smallbox, a ww20 and a ptv2 - but none at the same time - and i agree the el84 amps have more mids.

But i never would have characterized them as raw compared to say a jcm or jube. Having said that i think your comments about LOWERING the bass to let the mids shine more is EXCELLENT advise and ill be experimenting w my current amps more in this way. Kinda have me wishing i kept the smallbox to mess w it again lol

Thanks for posting the vid - its these kind that challenge me to work my eq and eq pedal more to find the magic i may be missing out on.

PS - stacked a middy eq into a klon model into synergy BE tonight and ur on to something for sure!

Absolutely is. Probably the most aggressive in the Friedman line, IMO.

Throw an EQ in the loop, and you're in big amp territory.
