I had heard the g12k100's were similar to the G12t75 speakers, which pushed me in that direction...

philbag, this is true. The only differences that I found from the specs are bigger magnet, deeper footprint and 25W increase. A few other subtleties that only a German Shepard would detect...

I want a modern day brown sound on steroids, I guess you could say.

Then like me, you'd probably be more satisfied with the Diezel RL straight cab w/V30s. I personally don’t like the G12T-75s for their inherent sterile tone. They lack of warmth when you need it. The V30 is IMO more versatile in this regard.

Thanks for the replies dudes. I would have gone ahead and chosen the v30 RL cab had I not been kinda unimpressed with how both my VH4 and Schmidt sounded through my Marshall 1960BV. Bass wasn't controlled, mids were kinda scooped a bit and there was a slightly weird high treble spike. Are the v30's in the diezel RL's the chinese made ones? I suppose the diezel cabinets handle the bass of the v30 a crapload better than the marshall v30 cabs also .

I'm a front loaded kinda guy. I know that the RL's were phased out of the Diezel line up in favour of the FL's. I've had both, and have to say that to my ears, the FL's sound better at all volumes and in all applications. I've got the G12K100 loaded 4x12 FL Diezel cab - it kicks.

I'm in the midst of deciding on a Mills line up, which are all rear loaded, but I suppose different cabs sound differently with different drivers and configurations. But for Diezel? I'm in 100% for the FL design. I think Pauly can chime in the same... It's a freight train.

Im chiming in...the FL cabs sound awesome. No issues...especially the new German made ones. they slay. I had mine with all G12K100s but them X'd it out with 2-V30s for a little more bite. Its a monster!!!!

The RL were nice cabs but didnt suite me like the FL. IMHO.

In real simple terms what are the differences and benefits between a rear loaded cab and a front loaded one?

I've sort of searched on here for an "idiots" guide but not found anything definitive.

Can anyone help?

The main difference is how they handle the low end. Front loaded cabs more handle it like bass amps, the bass is big, but it's transparent. An inexperienced person might think there is less low end. It seems like cabinet takes less of the low end on it & doesn't resonate much of it, which gives ti more ability to resonate other frequencies in a different way, which gives you meaner midrange. This is my theory, I could be wrong.

rear loaded gives you full resonant sound, which makes it more mellow sounding.

Diezel RL cabs are discontinued, hum. Pass it over here guys; I've been sober for quite some time now.

RL, FL, WTF is the difference. Smooth timbre, BIG bass, forgiving, tight. You smackers are hilarious.
