Sold my minty MPX-1 for $375.00 so that is a good buy!

Why did ya end up selling?

It was a bitch to program and I just don't have the patience. I didn't like the chorus, I thought the delays were too digital sounding, the reverb was nice but I rarely use it. So, I'm using a Lexicon PCM-41 or modded Replex for delay and an Intellifex for chorus right now.

Sounds promising for me!

Modded Replifex? Can you go into a little more detail about this for me, please?

He said Replex, not Replifex... although you may still be interested...

IMO the MPX1, that I scored for $300 with minor rack rash :D , smoked my old Gmajor for both verbs and delays. The verb is very good esp for what I payed and it is dual processor so one effect wont suffer if you build larger patches. I do not have experience with the PCM-41 but I do hear that is a great unit to this day.

Yeah there are better and yes programming is a night and a 6 pack but I am happy with mine. I am looking for an old Roland SDX330 for the chorus stuff and will run a RANE SM26B for the mixer which I scored for $50 shipped

Geez... Is the chorus unusable on this thing? Why do you need a different chorus? Everybody here baggin' on a Lexicon chorus really scares me now. I just need a taste of chorus with 250ms (l) and 500 ms (r) delays for wet/dry/wet. I'll mostly be using the dry sound. Surely, I can make this work well enough for jamming live...

I want to run a multi rack fx platform hense the Rane, I have no issues with the chorus :D Just after that demo Mentoneman did with Zach's rig I am building something like that.

I've got an SDX330...it sounds great but is unstable. It's the second one I've had with the same problem...

MPX1 is cool but it sucks when switching presets.
SDX330 is great but indeed not the most stable. I use a Roland RSP550 for chorusing and some other things and LOVE that unit.

For those who feel the GForce sounds sterile. Here's how to solve that:

run all your fx, whether they are in parallel or series into a filter as a final fx block. Then work with the filter adding/removing low or highs to taste. This will definitely warm up the sound!

Ha... Let me disagree here. The delays (especially the echo algorithm) sound wonderful in the MPX-1. The chorus (multiple different algos) are really good if you tweak them, and coupled with a little pitch shift/detune sound really stunning. The reverb is the best in its class. I have a G-Force too. If you switch presets a lot between songs, the G-Force is better. If not, the MPX-1 sounds a million times better IMHO. It has a lushness to the sound that is unmatched unless you use separate pricy units in a complex rig. The effect blend withthe original guitar tone instead of coming on top of it. You won't be disappointed if you can handle the user manual. It's not plug and play and requires tweaking but it's not as hard as some say. It took me a week or so reading the manual twice to master the thing. Of course I discovered some subtleties months later along the way because the machine is very deep but it's no big deal really.

Don't listen to the naysayers. The trick is to use some light stereo detune as chorus like Landau does. You can also add some chorus on top of that. Also use the echo algo for delay. Awesome tone, trust me !!

The G-Force doesn't sound sterile per se IMHO but its reverb algo is horrible for guitar use, again IMHO. Sounds indeed sterile and clangy, metallic and also doesn't blend at all in the guitar like a Lexicon. No amount of filtering can solve that (I tried). I really like a touch of delay/verb on my high-gain solo tone and Lexicon delivers the good for sure.

The naysayers are only saying that because they did not think about or know about the detune trick. The stock chorus patches in the MPX-1 absolutely suck ass IMHO and Ive heard an old intellifex side by side with the MPX-1 and it smoked it. With that said, you should get the medal of honor for recommending the detune trick with the chorus on top because that it the bizzzomb :D

As far as reverbs are concerned the lexicons just kill. I think the lexi boxes are the best for reverbs but the lag time between patches always makes me leary about using them live unless you just use it for a patch or 2.
Most of the guys I know who use the lexicon boxes are using multiple units so that they don't have to deal with the patch switch lag time.

That is the way I've always done chorus - light stereo detune w/different delays left and right. This would also be down in the mix from my dry sound. I'm going wet/dry/wet with a power amp...

What up with this stability issue with the Roland 330?!?!?!?!?

Some of you guys told me to get that one?!?!?!? :gethim:
