G-major or stompboxes?

I used to use the parallel loop for FX so I could use the midi function. Since got schooled by Peter and advised to use the serial loop for stomp FX. I don't have a looper pedal to control the tap dancing but the sound is great with no volume changes. Next step is to buy some sort of dual midi switcher/pedal looper like the ES8 which would control configurations of everything.

What exactly did he say?

parallel loop is for fx units with kill dry otherwise there's an inconvenient volume boost when the loop is engaged. Serial loop is the way forward for stomp fx. Only found that out this year.
Only bummer is that the serial loop in the vh4 is non switchable.

Never heard about the Strymon, so I guess I'll look into that.
I totally hear you about the philosophical problem, digital is often versatile as hell but a true analog effect always sounds right, if that makes any sense

On a different note, how are the VH4 coping with the KT77's?

They're probably my favourite tube so far. I'm more of an EL34 guy and the KT77 are in that ball park but not as aggressive, which I like.

Those strymon pedals sound great. You certainly get what you pay for.

Glad to hear! I just ordered a set for my Hagen, not quite the same amp but I like your description of them :)

Yeah, I've spent the evening listening and reading about them and they seem pretty amazing!

I've been down the MIDI and processor route. Now I use stomp boxes and a single channel amp. My tone has never been better

What amp are you using? The one channel thing got me intrigued

I have a 2204 that I modded myself bud. Rolled back cleans are good enough for me..

Nice!
It's always cool to have your own unique sound.
Extra cool that you modded yourself! :)

Well, yeh I guess. But to be honest I modded it to try and sound like a slight gain increased cranked up ole Plexi. So just how unique ? Well I dont know..

Haha, you had me at modded ;)

I use a G Major (1st ed.) in parallel loop (chorus + delay always on) at 50% and a few stomp boxes like wah, Maxon boost, ISP decimator, etc. Works pretty well for me with the Einstein 100.

Sounds like a good setup actually. It did cross my mind to use both a digital rack unit, like the g-major, and some stompboxes.
Right now though, I'm expanding my park of stompboxes

Want real pedals with knobs but like the ease of the G-major? Wanna use MIDI to recall your Diezel channel + whatever Delay, Reverb and combo of analog stuff you want? As forgetful as me and want each button to have it's own LCD to tell you what it does in the current bank? and feature song/setlist modes? But still have instant access to anything for jamming?

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you... why I still haven't got around to decorating my house... :D

There's a Soda Meiser hidden under the shelf too, and it now also has an EHX Pitchfork.

I used to have a G-Major. Then got a small pedalboard and only used the G-maj for delay and reverb. Then the pedalboard wanted to grow with new toys but I'd still need the rack so I then blew all of my money and time designing and crafting this beast. Although the main bit of the case was built by someone else to my spec, but I did quite a lot of additional work and a helluva lotta research and experimentation making shit work with stuff it's not "supposed to".

Currently on the drawing board is a plan to make something to MIDI control all the expression jacks of shit but I'm purposefully putting that off else I've never actually play the guitar after another ill-advised MIDI project I've done in the meantime!

It was just a g-major (with killdry on in the parallel loop) and a wah, then with another pedal in the rack in the Herbert switchable loop. But then expanded to this little pedalboard on the left.

But like all addictions it got out of hand. It's safe now though as I have no more space, PSU outputs, or spare current to even daisy-chain power with. Or any money for that matter...

anybody just do guitar - cable - amp anymore?
That doesn't really suit my musical style. But if I wanted to be a purist then I'd go for a G-major in the parallel loop with the kill dry function on. Then the signal goes straight from guitar through amp to cab, but I can add a touch of reverb to the clean sound, or some spacey delay. That way it's only being added in parallel and the guitar signal is always running direct from guitar straight through the amp to cab.

Why i whent stombox route is when i didnt like a sertan effectsprocessor i sold the thing and got a new one. It might be cheap but not in the long run.
With pedals you can easely swap around. The only down side is that when gigging you will have to move pedals around.

Hehe, that´s one hell of a stompbox park!
I´ve decided to keep it simple.
In the serial loop I´ve got a Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay (hand wired) and I´m partnering my delay with a reverb from Mad professor as well.
In the front it´s guitar ->tuner-> MXR original distorsion w/Zakk Wylde mod -> cry baby -> amp.
