G12-65’s

Love G12-65’s. They become magical with my Soldano when pushed fairly hard (around 11:00 on MV). I don’t consider them dark, more like a smooth high end. I like bright amps, though. Wouldn’t use them with darker amps. Mine are from October 1981.

My Mark IVa through an 83' JCM800 4x12 with G12-65s just rips. Blows away the Mesa cab with V30's. Think Crue Shout at the Devil tone. ?

One of my fav speakers. My C+s loved them, and they are arguably the perfect speaker for any stock/modded Marshall. Pushed they give a higher powered greenback vibe. Now, there were a bunch of different cones for them but I've probably had 5 cabs with them(currently have a 1979 65 cab) and the only difference is some were brighter than others. They all had the same mids/lows. The lows are not as tight as a V30 but they aren't loose. When you put volume to them they really wake up and shine; and sound good low as well.
Your amps will dig them Imo.

These sound good...Are these old vintage 12G65's or the Reissues? I have an 8 ohm reissue in my 1x12 Marshall 2203 amp and it's a great speaker.
If the old one sound better than the reissues I understand what all the talk about them is.

I think Racer has the most time with the vintage ones and about every iteration of them. I decided to try the reissue on Racerxrated's recommendation and I wasn't disappointed at all. Thanks RACER! I remember them being described by Celestion as a higher powered Greenback. I'm not sure it they were 100% on with their description but its a great sounding speaker IMHO.

Awesome to hear. Have MK IV on way. Should rip with 65s and V30s.

These are a matching set of 1980s with original covers. @LPMojoGL basicslly stole them, and the guy then thanked him for the thievery.

I went to grab one of these 1980 4x12s (with original g12-65s and covers!) from a guy about an hour away. I've heard how they're the best cabs for JCM/JMP mv Marshalls.
I liked the thickness of the straight cab, but much preferred the brightness and overall sound of the slant cab. That's the one I was going to buy. Right before I hit the pay button, I made the seller an offer for the pair. He said let's do it.
So I am now the proud owner of my first full stack. @Shredsmcgee was along for the ride. His job was to reign me in if I got too spendy. Hmph. At least I didn't come home with the JMP 2203.
@scottosan came over to help celebrate. All in all, it was a great day!!!

Sux man! I'd flip this bottom cab to you, but Denmark is a long way from Dallas.

I've got a pair of '79 cabs with the original g12-65's in them. They're my oldest gear - dating to the 80's. I love them with pretty much any classic Marshall or similar amp. They sound great with my SLO. I've run my boogies through them too and they sound great too - just a little EQ adjustment from the Mesa 2x12's I usually pair with them. (I actually loaded a Mesa 2x12 with a pair of them. Sounds great.)

I'd agree that they have a smoother high end than most Celestions (at least the higher wattage ones) which is why they pair so nicely with bright amps, like those classic Marshalls.
