Yeah he's got quite a collection of rigs..lots of old JMP master and non-master heads, combos, some 800s, and like 8 cabs..plus original tubescreamers and other valuable guitars..he was in a band in the 80s that tried to make it out in LA but like so many..didn't work out. I told him he's got his retirement plan locked up in all that valuable gear..plus old Fenders as well. The cab is in really good shape with just a few scuffs but no tolex tears, and he gave me a marshall cover also..

I have a quad in my Bogner cab. Awesome speakers. Though they can sound a bit muddy at low volumes. Get them cranking and they are fantastic. Very musical and piano-like.

What amp are you using them with?

I have used and/or currently use 'em with Diezel VH4, Cameron CCV, and Ceriatone Chupacabra.

Interesting thread. Wasn't 6 months ago these speakers were always mentioned in a bad light.

Here we go - flavor of the month or actual factual :dunno:

I'm staying tuned.

I only like them when 3 or more others do unless there are also 3 detractors in which case I have no opinion.

I don't know what you're talking about. These speakers have always been regarded as some of the best Celestion has made (at least for high-gain). That's why they demand some of the highest prices on the used market. And I've sung their praises for years. Why do you think companies like Scumback, WGS, and Weber bother to make clones of them...

I had them back in the 80's and 90's in a couple of straight 4x12's and I thought they sounded better than any other cabs that I heard at the time. Now I gig with a pair of 1x12 Bogner cubes. I don't have the vehicle and desire to carry around a 4x12.

I can tell you that my mid-life crisis over the past 5 or so years has been modded Marshalls, stock Marshalls, and anything Marshall-like. I played a JCM 800 years ago and then went to rack stuff through the 90s. During that time I've also tried many different speaker combinations. And I like greenbacks, older V30s, Marshall Vintages..even older G12T-75s. But after all the gear trading/selling I've done, for my present amps(Jubilee, JMP 2204 and Cameron 1987x) this cab with the Marshall labeled 65s sound best to my ears. And I do like 80s style gain..warm and in your face.

Same here, have a 4x12 loaded with the WGS ET65's and it sounds HUGE! I run it with a '79 JMP and they just work great together. Big and rich, with vintage-like mids and a clear top end but not shrill. And they hold together awesome under high volume and gain since they are higher wattage.

I like the price. How would you compare the ET65 to the Celestion G12-65 and the Scumback M75 (65)? Any thoughts on how these would sound with a Shiva? I ask since the Shiva isn't as bright as most Marshalls.

I tried the 20th Shiva on Amplifires JCM800 4x12 with 65's. I thought it was ....ok. The Shiva sounded better on a Bogner 4x12 that Robotechnology has sitting in his garage covered with lawn chairs that he wouldn't sell me.  But those V30's sounded really broken in and that cab sounds great, it was a better match for the Shiva than the 65's in the JCM800. At least all in my opinion. And a Diezel Einstein we tried didn't sound that great on the 65's either. But Mesa amps, modded Marshall's, just love the 65's.

I've never seen a negative thread on 65's. Me thinks you're confusing them with 75's

Meh.......I had a quad of Heritage 65's in my Mojo cab for a short while. IMO, the 65w Creambacks kill them on all levels. They are clearer, more articulate, and don't have the nasal honk of the 65's. Given that I've never played through the original 65's, but the mid Q on the Heritage Reissues is awful IMO. They remind me of Fran Drescher's voice.

I've never played the heritage version. But the original 65's I have aren't nasal. They are exactly like G12M Greenbacks but with smoother, less harsh high end, a fuller low-end, and less speaker/cone breakup because they can handle more power. And maybe a tad more emphasis lower down in the mid range. They do sound a bit muddy to me at low volumes. But once you get them cooking at a reasonable volume, they are very wall-of-sound and authoritative. No fizz. No cardboard crunch. No harshness.

I REALLY dig the old G12-65s, have this old JCM800 4x12 that has them and have a couple in 1x12 cabs.
Soundguys really dig them as well!
