I looked this up and didnt find a past discussion about it. What do you prefer, Celestion G12-75's or the V30's?

Mixed, they are probably the best speaker combination around for gainy tones. By themselves, I prefer the V30, especially when I Mic the speakers.

In a band setting V30's cut like a knife - V30's for me.

Depends on the amp. I tried ge V30/T75 combo for a long time, and I liked the sound of the 75 better with my Marshall. For more gainy stuff, the V30 was more appropriate. This was all with a single SM57, through my in ear monitors.

75's. Every time I try to force myself to like 30's, I fail. Problem solved though - Greenbacks!

V30's. 75's are really harsh unless they're pushing some air.

T75's are great if you are going for more extreme tones, like doom or black/death metal tone, because that is what they really excel at. For more "normal" guitar tones, it should really be between V30's and Greenbacks.

^This is the first thing that I thought when I read the OP.

Would anyone here say the v30's are "warmer" sounding than the 75's or is that not the case?

V30s have less top end than G12T-75s.... so if that fits your definition of warmer than the answer is yes.

No. V30's have a sort of "Motorcycle" tone to them, as I like to call it. They blast out a certain part of the midrange spectrum with a vengeance, but can be harsh with the wrong amp or settings. V30's mature with volume but do NOT like to be pushed, whereas T75's and Greenbacks do. They do a great job at tightening more modern voiced amps which could sound too bassy otherwise. Lots of modern amps are voiced through V30's anyhow. T75's are like the polar opposite of V30's. They are pretty devoid of the "fullness mids" right around 1k-2k, and come back with a sharp high midrange peak right around 4k and then nothing on top of that. They also have a looser feel in the low end, which makes them not great for most modern amps, but they're pretty nice with lower gain vintage amps like NMV Marshalls because like Greenbacks, when pushed they can add a layer of gain in and of themselves. They're also good for more extreme metal tones with modern amps like I said before. For an instance of this, listen to the album Dead Heart in a Dead World by Nevermore, for a Dual Recto into a Marshall T75 cab.

Came across this video online.

I can see what you are describing from the video, but just want to make sure the video is an accurate representation from you guys. I always used 75's in the past. but will have to check out the v30's when I get a new cab.

I have usually liked how V30's sounded over 75's. I guess it really depends on the amp, but V30 have typically to me sounded warmer and more 3d, while 75's were more harsh on the top end, and scooped. but that is just me

I hate 75s. Everyone says they mix well with V30s but I'd much rather have a V30/H30 or V30/G12-65 mix. 75s sound papery and unbalanced and bleh.
V30s on their own can be pretty harsh with some amps, but live they cut through like no other.

Since the v30's have that extra midrange, are they harder to scoop the mids with?

Well, they have a wide frequency response but they won't create mids that aren't there with the amp, if that makes sense. For example, an iconic "scooped" sound is a recto through V30s with the mids scooped out.

AHA! so they arent naturally mid crazy but give the speakers mids and it may run with it depending on the settings?

I think it's more that they don't have a pronounced top and bottom end that makes them sound so mid heavy. Compared to a G12T-75 the top end is rolled off and the bottom end doesn't extend as deep, so you get a faster, punchier response with more mid focus.

With T-75s I would run my Recto with the mids on full and the treble turned off trying to compensate for the speakers mid scoop and dial back the icepick highs. With V30s I run the mids at 11:00 and the treble around 1:00 and it sounds much more natural (natural for a Recto).
