Gotcha. The First Schaller version was the one I had in my Hamer, that the knife edge failed on. So I wouldn't recommend that one IF one wants to really use the tremolo. The Lockmeister is the one to get IF you don't want to pay those huge prices for an OFR.

You can tell the regular tremolo and the lockmeister by the short-long string lockscrews at the back...

ok...about "german" tremolos...

There is the "old classic Schaller tremolo"
https://www.thomann.de/gr/schaller_tremolo_locking_bc.htm
Hardened steel...warmer sounding tremolo

Schaller Lockmeister
https://www.thomann.de/gr/schaller_lockmeister_6_tremolo_bc.htm
Exact copy of the OFR...same materials...same all...

Gotoh 1996T

Amazing price, great quality...
Just two drawbacks...de-tuna will not fit and if you cut your guitar to work with a gotoh, you cannot replace it with ofr style...you can do it the other way around...

I have tried all three...I wouldnt have any problem with any of them...since I cannot use the de-tune on my gotoh I would get the lockmeister..
I have a Dtuna installed on a Musicman Axis gotoh and it works great.

Thats cool!!!
Mine will not fit because of the recessed tuners...it just touches the body too much...it has to do with the intonation as well...

When they are 106 they always charge 15 or so for shipping, when they are 120 its usually free shipping. But not always.

Ehh, the GFR is not what it used to be, I go GOTOH now.

The GFR is not the quality it was in the 80' and 90's.
Gotoh 1996 is the shit, IMO. I love them. So buttery smooth, great tuning stability, and pull-ups feel so natural and you can go ape shit.

Absolutely my 1st choice. I'd take one over a German any day.

I usually buy from guitarhey on ebay but since they have raised the gotoh replacement base plates 2 times recently, have not been looking.

I've bought three OFRs in the past year. None of them have been anything less than I expected them to be. And while I do love the Gotoh 1996, it requires some additional material to be removed.

The Ibanez Edge and the Gotoh are pretty similar I think...

Design-wise they are pretty similar but the Edge is much more massive

I've heard that Gotoh is the actual builder of the Edge trems which would make sense....wish you could buy them brand new direct (maybe you can somehow and I just don't know about it)

you can, they are just ridiculous in price. $300 or more new.

The only issue I have with the Gotoh is the open edge on the upper post...I had an Ibanez 550 that the Gotoh would occasionally pop out under extreme use.

I've never liked the feel of the Gotoh, have one on my Suhr and something about it just has never clicked for me. I'm a Ibanez whore so the Edge is by far my favorite, but I have OFR's on my Luxxtone and PRS and they play great and sound huge.

I appreciate all the feedback. Not a lot of live for the FU Tone Floyd, not sure anyone even talked about it. But there is some love for Gotoh and Sophia. Will look into Sophia. Already knew about Gotoh. Thank you crowd! Cheers!
