I'm a Gibson snob, so I won't be addressing that part of your question. I personally wouldn't pony up the $900. It's a tad high. You can get an Explorer as low as $700 w/ HSC on ebay (yes I know ebay is evil and it's risky to buy without playing... just to give a ball park of the lowest you can expect to pay) Maybe see if you can get outta there with it for $800 flat.

I wouldn't pony up $800 either, especially if its beat up. Somebody's obviously changed tuners and pickups. Explorers have had 496R/500T pickups forever.

Hell, I had mine on CL for a bit, (until I changed my mind), for $900, and it's MINT.

dude!,...i believe all guitars should be black....but i gotta tell ya,..that's beautiful!!! what's that black disc, thing, under the left side of the tail piece?

merry christmas

I have an 81 white with gold hardware Gibson Explorer that I love, but I HAD an Ibanez Phil Collen model (with the Ibanez Floyd knock off instead of the Kahler Phil had) and that was a great playing guitar, but I didn't like how it sounded so I sold it like an idiot...should have tried changing the pickups and some other tweeks first...beautiful guitar. The abalone inlays were stunning.
