We had a tie between the GOTOH 1996 recessed into the body and a flush mounted FLOYD ROSE ORIGINAL!
So, we're doing a runoff poll. Super crazy to me that the Gotoh camp wants recessed and the Floyd end leans toward a flush mount.
I feel this is going to be close, but let's find out. If another tie happens, I will be the tie breaker at my discretion.

In the mean time use your words to convince other members of your position. I could go either way, tbh.
You can change your selection up until the last moment if you want.
I love the comfort of the Gotoh, but the Floyd is the standard by which all are measured, so...
This poll closes in two days.

To recap, the specs for this build are:

Mahogany Body Dinky
Maple Neck with Fender Standard C Carve
Ebony Fingerboard
25.5" Scale
24 Stainless Steel Jumbo Frets

Besides comfort, my main argument for a Gotoh can be summed up in two words: Cosmo Black.
If you know, you know ❤️
The major difference here is the mounting position, imo.
Don't forget that I will be doing other builds, so don't stress if you don't get what you want here.

Typically more traditional Floyd guys like it flush.

Me personally like it recessed but in any case a Gotoh is as good or better I imagine. Been a Floyd dude for like 5 years now mainly playing 6 point forever. Been playing now for like 20+ years so its newer to me I dig it. The design still stands even almost 50 years later IMO.

The simple things are important and that is intonation and tuning stability and not a lot of things can deliver like a FR or FR type guitar IME. Sometimes overlooked for other stuff but in general intonation and tuning stability are two of the main things one wants aside from general tone.

Gotoh 100%
I'm a Floyd Rose user with an FR1000 on San Dimas and yeah I remember reading specs and builds between that and the Gotoh 1996 and also FR 1984....

Something about the Gotohs design wise and look wise just made more sense to me or just seemed like an as good or better product.

Flush mount for life! :rawk:

Actually, flush or recessed is all good. But, all my recessed Floyd's are blocked anyways so... I have no opinion on the Gotoh vs. Floyd debate, other than to say I've never had issues with palm muting with an OFR.

I dunno what it is, but I feel like my hand is a bit more kinked with the FR. Like more wrist pressure. I think part of it may be the natural feel of where I'm picking at keeping myself within comfortable reach of the trem arm and moving to the palm muting position from there. Probably just a personal preference. Could likely just shorten the trem arm and/or bend it down a bit and I would be fine at that point.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the area where the fine tuners sit being angled back similar to the Floyd Pro. Seems like this orientation would facilitate the palm of the hand having a little more room to sit on the bridge. I've never seen a Gotoh 1996 in person so just thinking out loud based on what I see in the picture above.

Dunno, but I swear I always need to readjust and move back further to the point of my wrist being at a sharp angle or having to move my entire arm.
The rounded edges of the gotoh saddles also feel a little better, and oddly at the same time I feel that easier natural lock into the right spot. Make sense of that 🤷‍♀️

We all get older at some point

Peeps like what they like, it's just good that we have choices.
