I used GL KT77 in my Einstein combo. Sounded killer. I prefer the 6550 tone so I swapped out. But if I didn't have the 6550s I'd def run the 77s. Great tones to me. Sound much clearer than 34s to me. Better clean tone too.

I was considering 6550s as well. But didn't want to stray too far from EL34s.

I put 6550s in my Diezel on a whim years ago. N I fell in love with them. They aren't liked by all but to my ears they are like angels singing.

About posted in the other thread you bumped.

Thought the Gold Lion were the best tubes for my ears in the VH4.

Short answer is they will have a higher mid voicing than the SED, more modern sounding crunch, and about equal on the bottom end. Gonna boil down to your ears and where you like the mid focus.

And yes they'll bias up just like a 34.

Another great tube that's less coin is the EH6CA7, it's my second choice after SED's in most Marshall wannabe amps. Don't remember if I've tried them in a Diezel though?

By "higher mid voicing" you mean their mid-spike is at a higher frequency? I was thinking about the EH 6CA7s as well. But they aren't real 6CA7s. Though they may sound good. I guess I'll pick up some Gold Lions and give 'em a try. I was also thinking about some 6550s or KT88s. But the Diezel service manuel says not to use big bottle tubes? Too many choices!

If you're thinking of trying out 6CA7's steer well clear of JJ's offering! Most atrociously harsh clipping I've ever heard from a tube, and a grating "hard" top end that you can't dial out... Funny, cuz I usually am very fond off JJ powertubes

Nah, I hate JJ.

I'm diggin' the Gold Lion KT77s. I may try the EH 6CA7 down the line just to see, though. I've heard good things.
