Good 4x12 with V30s

While the cabinet is definitely important, I would suggest starting the search looking for any well built 412 that has V30s from 2003 or earlier in it. IMO that's more important.
Not really. I've played through many V30 loaded cabs post 2003 that sound excellent. It's just if you want that particular V30 sound, like Killswitch Engage or whatever...

I've got a bunch of 2006 and 2007 V30's that all sound great. Only 2 of them have a hint of that 5-6K spike in them, the rest are very balanced. Plus most of the 2001- 2003 speakers have a spike in the 2 - 3K range.

The “best” cab for someone playing Hatebreed tunes is not going to be the same as the “best” cab for Rolling Stones covers.

I have both pre and post China Celestions and they sound the same, I don’t believe that is a thing at all

Fair. I suppose what I should have said is "depending on which tone you prefer, I'd suggest looking for either pre-03 or 04+". I've had many, many Mesa V30s and this clip sums up the fundamental difference I've experienced over the year split. Of course every speaker is a little different, and there are trends that can help when buying blind.

Personally, of all the cabs I've owned my 90's Orange with v30s is the best sounding of the bunch. I will say the '22 Orange 4x12 I recently aquired sounds significantly different.

My least favorite v30 cab was a recent Friedman. Maybe it's just the newer v30's I don't like?
Each to his own. I must admit I have not tried one that goes as far back, but I really don't like the completely parallel baffle and back, and the skids.

They're great in-the-room cabs, but they're really hard to capture with a mic, IME.

Don't forget Avatar and Splawn cabs.
The Avatar cab I have is hands down the best I’ve ever had. Took a while to get broke in but it’s never going anywhere. It makes every amp I own sound better.

So which model is it? Contemp looks like an orange in appearance, vintage is like a marshall, and traditional is like a fender,.

The Marshall AV/BV cabs are my favorite of all time. The Marshall celestion vintage speaker is like the best v30 on the planet, without being a v30. More scooped, more lows and highs, not as “tight” as a Mesa cab, but this is a positive to me. Sometimes cabs that are overbuilt like the Mesa cabs don’t breathe enough for me. I still own and love them, but it all just depends on what the song calls for.

What do you not like about Mesa cabs?
I went crazy buying cabs a few years ago. The 1960AV was my fav. Swapped in all the other types of V30s too, and I liked that cab with those speakers.

It’s 20 years old. I have no idea.

That would be their "vintage" design. Basically a Marshall type, but built better/sturdier.
Were they finger-jointed as well? I remember reading they were something else/not as sturdy, but I wouldn't know for sure.

Those both sound really good to my ears, little more upper mids in the 2001 speaker, little more sizzle in the 2006 speaker, but nothing too drastic. I bet they would blend great.

That I don't know, and I'm fairly sure avatar changed some throughout their earlier years.
Older Marshall cabs were made better, but I think it's the opposite for Avatar lol.

Marshall cabs kinda sorta improved over the last 10 or so years. The backs are back to being made from plywood. But yeah, they look really bad inside. Crooked screws, paint splatter, the woodscrews strip the plywood super easily, etc.

I guess the trashy construction kinda makes them sound like they do, which is really good, at least under the mic. But you're absolutely right. They look decent on the outside, but inside, they're really not much better than your average cheapie but half-decent Chinese cab.

Years back I had a peavey xxx bottom cab. I had heard they were very well made, but the one I had really sucked. The baffle-cut was all crooked and because of that obviously didn't come anywhere close to sealing. I made some mods and sealed it up good, but everything starting with the wood and thickness was bad at best. Marshalls of any age are built much better than those peaveys.

I think those are alright... but yeah, nothing like Diezel, Bogner, Friedman, etc. O Mesa.

The thing about those Peaveys (and most of the lower-end Chinese cabs) is that they tolex they use either tears super easily or at the very least, looks visually cheap and low-quality.

I know you mentioned not liking mesa. But maybe going for the traditional 4x12 will make you more satisfied?
People talking about Mesa cabs usually refer to the OS

I preferred mine to the OS but i prefer the Diezel to the Mesa by far.

I've had 2 OS Mesa V30 cabs. Wouldn't trade my Avatar for both of them.
