Hi there you guys, I'm brand new to the world of diezel and im looking to find and amp for metal. I'm currently looking at the einstine combo. Does that thing pack the kind of huge punch you'd need for a metal band with a lot of "chug chug" riffs? Thanks you guys!

what would you say is the biggest difference between the two tone wise?

Really bright cleans and super smooth/heavy distortion with just enough mids to not sound scooped.

Can you bring some examples of super smooth/heavy distortion?

Sound like Einstein could be the ticket for you.

i honestly cant bring you any good examples, i just know what i want my sound to sound like (I've got it in my head). Why would you say the Einstein would be good for me?

EINSTEIN ! i do also very brutal metal and it is perfect.

test it and love it.

Well, you really need to describe that super smooth distortion better, maybe refer to some other amps you had experience with, some other recordings, because we really can't read your mind. ;)

Einstein is smooth & has great cleans IMO, but even cleans .. what sort of cleans, so many variables....

My advice... for metal don't go for anything less than 2x12 setup.

im loving my herbert, so you might wanna at least play on one (or better yet all) before you buy!

Einstein for the clean smooth tone, with CH2 able to get great Metal tones. Herbert is more Metal, Metal and more Metal. Use it with a front load cab and your off to the races. I have a 50w Einstein with a 4x12 rear load with V30's and pull of anything from clean Jazz to Pantera and beyond. New Heavy metal is not my thing, at 40 years old I go back to the original heavy metal. Black Sabbath.

One more vote for Einstein.
I had a clip somewhere here
Uhm ... here it is - short dry clip from unreleased yet song. Just "click-track" drums and guitars only. All is Einstein.

If you want if for metal... dont doubt it, and go with Herbert... It's really MASSIVE !!! You have amazing cleans, and all the distorsions you would ever dream, from soft to HUGE massive power distorsions...

Ok.. einstein is great, but I think can beat the Herbert in the "metal" field... (although you can get some AMAZING metal sounds, you dont have the WHOLE METAL CHARTS you have in the herbert ;).

Just my 2 cents, off course, I would love to own both, but, in this life, you have to choose...

I did... and I chose the Herby

P.S. would b interesting that you could "show" the sound you are looking for a little more... for example, naming some bands or albums, so people would know WHAT you have IN YOUR MIND... ;) (because we are not forture-tellers :P, we cant "read your mind" :D :rawk:

The Herbert's big, the Einstein's more direct. There's a lot of VH4 love in here too.

Try all of them! :D

As a note, I have a Dual Recto & an Einstein, the Einstein kills the Mesa for everything apart from absolute low end. The Herbert is just more of everything.

Herbert ALL the way! IMO. Great depth and the crunch tone is pure evil.

Mr Lugo, what mic´s did you use for that recording?

Herbert. Einstein doesn´t come even close when talking about great metal tones. Einstein can deliver some metal tones but to me they´re not that modern or huge than Herbert. Herbert delivers those massive, tight metal tones with ease and with huge authority. You just can´t beat that huge power section when playing metal. I also dig Herbert´s cleans more. And that MiD Cut is just ingenious.

VH4 is almost there but somethings always missing. Channel 3 is great, super tight, but to me it sounds more rock than metal and channel 4 is too compressed for my taste.

I play metal almost exclusively and buying Herbert was an easy decision. I like ´em all. Herb, VH4 and third place goes to Einstein.

Ultimate Diezel for me would be Herbert with "metalized" VH4´s 3rd channel. How´s that for an amp?

I might be the only one that prefers the VH4. I owned a Herbert at the same time and liked the VH4 slightly better. I do boost it with a tubescreamer to add some aggression and slice, I've done this with every amp I've owned. I just really dig the tightness and unique punch it has. Seems to have more going on in the mids which suits my style well. Both are great!

for metal...herbert is the best amp you can get. the einstein is cool but would be more of a rock/80's metal amp. if you're looking to chug the herbert is the way to go...or the vh4 is also great for this.
