Good pedal alternative for Boss DC-2 for 80's chorus sound

I agree, there is just something about the DC-2. I've really enjoyed my Dr. Scientist Cosmichorus though. It offers such a range.

How exactly is this unit different from other chorus pedals?

See my post above. I tried to explain it.

Basically a normal chorus pedal splits your signal into two. One stays "dry", the other gets delayed at varying amounts by a Low Frequency Oscillator. The changing amount of delay causes a perceived changing in pitch- ie the pitch wobbles. When that mixes with the dry signal, it creates a chorus effect.

The DC-2 splits it into three signals. It runs two LFOs instead of just one, but instead of the LFO having just a sine or triangular wave where the delaying causes the pitch to wobble down and up, it "glides", kind of ramps up, then moves steady, then drops a little, then ramps down, moves steady, then goes back up again. Technically it's called a trapezoidal wave- think of the shape.
The two waves are mirror images of each other, so they sort of do a 'through-zero flange' effect, in a way. Maybe, I am not sure.

Running the two waves together gets a smoother pitch modulation effect that does not sound as warbly. Basically it sounds wide, spacey, and 'dimensional', 3D, hence the name Dimension C DC-2. And like its big sister the SDD-320 Dimension D.

There are not many chorus units at all that use that method. That's what makes the DC-2 unique. There's the Behringer copy, John Fromel's excellent clone that is called the Seraph, and that's about it.

OK, as a fan of "cheesy" 80's chorus, you guys got me excited and ready to buy a chorus pedal. I am looking at the Dimension C DC-2. One question, would i run it in the effects loop or in the front of the amp. I play 2 Friedman modded Marshalls.

Thanks,

I don't like the DC-2 in the loop, in front is very cool. It has stereo out's so I'd run it before the amps and run one side into each one. It's a massive sound that way.

I dug out my DC-2 today and ran things differently in my studio. The majority of the time I've used the pedal mono and in front of the amp. It's very Hammond sounding that way. Running it stereo it's more of a stereo image type thing. As you go from button 1 thru 4 that sound widens more and more. It's pretty cool.

So here's a quick clip running it in front of the amp and thru two different amps.

With big ringing / open type chords its just huge!

Ooops sorry. :) Its a Hiwatt DR103 Custom Lead and a 68 Marshall plexi Super tremolo. Always wanted to try them together.

that sounds cool, looks like I'll be spending some $$$

That's pretty cool man, thanks for demonstrating the difference. And good that it wasn't the typical "tinkly" bright tone either.

And killer tone! Love that Marshall bark!

Same here. I love chorus but don't like it in the loop- it gets way too cheesey. I run chorus in front of my amps- one side wet, the other dry.

As Ed let fly last night..............FUCK THESE BASEMENT SOLDEING IRON "BUILDERS" charging fuck loads of money

DC-2 = done.

people say this is very close.....

It isn't though. More like a bright-sounding subtle CE-5 than DC-2.
