As you can very well see, taking that away turned Off Topic into a ghost town.

I am a big believer in containment forums. It's like in Ghostbusters when the city came in and forced them to shut down the containment unit....

Thank goodness we don’t have to be subjected anymore to a sub forum we had to engage in completely on our own volition. Talking about things like freedom of speech, the right to pursue happiness, true liberty and actual justice...that’s stupid anyway. Truly important things, like how did Eddie get that tone, should only ever be discussed here.

Go to your computer. Yell "soy boy" loudly for thirty minutes. You've now completely replaced the previous level of intellectual engagement in the subforum.

Go to your local Starbuck's. Chug down all the soy lattes you can stand. Feel all intellectually "superior" with your robotic repeating of MSM propaganda, caved in chest, and noodle wrists.

Regardless of the "intellectual level of engagement", it served folks' need to vent, share and learn about the subject.

It'd be intellectual snobbery to deny all levels of engagement except those one deems highfalutin'-enough.

Okay but I usually feel all intellectually superior with just my superior intellect? Seems unnecessarily complicated your way.

I agree it served a venting purpose but the question is: is the purpose of a guitar gear forum to vent political outrage? I think there are other places for that.

I know many people here who can take part in that sort of thing in a normal way without turning into five year olds. It's just unfortunately not everyone (as already evidenced by the thread).

Of course, it's not the primary purpose.

Same applies to most audio forums 'though, almost all of which have OT sections, many allowing political discussion.

As I'm sure you'd know, it's kinda like a "lounge" at a studio. When peeps have had enough of the brain-straining work, they might pop into the lounge for a coffee and chinwag. Often the last thing folks want is to continue to debate gear and engineering techniques (using the studio as an example), in which case going OT provides welcome relief.

Oh, and the "other places for that" aspect's analogy might be that sure, there's a pub up the road, but right now you're here, at the studio.

Yea, but imagine at this chill lounge with coffee/chinwag, the other table is shouting at you belligerently and breaking glasses over their heads. I imagine that lounge wouldn't last long either. I think that's the problem -- one person's view of off-topic is chill lounge. The other's is a melee breaking out at some sort of BLM/alt-right rally.

Yeah but there is way more political stuff than music these days.

What these brain-addled soys like gonad don't remember is, it was the liberals (soys themselves) who politicized everything; business, sports - everything.

Get woke, remember?

It's all part of their M.O. and behavioral pattern - blame the other side for doing what they are actually doing.

Why don't you quit your crying and go back to fapping to anime like you told us you used to do?

Or actually do something useful, like learn how to play the guitar.

So it wasn't Donald Trump who politicized the kneeling in the NFL? Nice textbook example of gaslighting. Oh and thanks for making me feel superior. You do that well.

Hence the subforum named “off topic”. All of that intellect and that part completely missed you.

The kneeling in the NFL was the politicizing, fool.

WTF do professional sports and kneeling to "protest" have to do with each other?

Not a goddamned thing.

All this politicizing, "wokeness", Identity Politics and virtue signalling needs to die if we are ever to become civilized again.

But the left cannot sustain itself without those items.
