Here’s some lower gain tones. I think it does really well for a single channel high gainer. I don’t know of any other single channel amps with this much gain out there that’ll do Little Wing and sound good. At least I haven’t had one. It’s not going to sound like a perfect vintage Plexi but I’m really happy with the versatility.

For the record I still prefer diodes over tubes. I just played my other marshall with the same mod that I added a 4th gain stage to. I prefer the feel of the diodes, no doubt. They have a bounce and compression that’s addictive.

I still hear the tightness and stiffness of a high gainer but honestly I still dig it as it’s own thing. Reminded me of some of the early metal panels that were never going to do anything but rock hard tightly as opposed to fuck her gently…lol

you like alpha pots more than CTS? I’m personally a CTS fan but have a few alphas for mods purposes if needed.
I like CTS but for pull-pots I like those Alphas. Bourns makes pull-pots similar to those Alphas but it seems these pull-pots often have a dead-space at the lower end of the sweep so for example if it's a Volume control you get nothing until 2 then a big jump. Not as big a deal on a Bass control but still not optimal.

I just revoiced my 1974 to take away chewy attitude and easy playing to add back in note clarity and tightness. To me thats Marshall character that I actually enjoy - the fast note tracking. I’ve got a ton of Marshall inspired tones that are easy to play but getting the gain, keeping the spectrum full (no diodes), and keeping it tight without instability is actually something I’ve spent the better part of this year accomplishing.

love the workbench area and the chassis looks good. you like alpha pots more than CTS? I’m personally a CTS fan but have a few alphas for mods purposes if needed.

Sorry I had missed this.

Yeah I’ve used both CTS and Alpha push pulls and really prefer the Alphas. The switching setup is more versatile as well.

Getting pretty close on this ground up. Looking pretty decent so far.

The send and return jacks are on opposite from conventional sides with metroloops. He likely does it so send is on the left like normal.
I get it but its not too difficult to plug the send in where it says send. Lol

Yes this.

And, the board is further from the tube connections when upside down. It’ll literally rest on the screen resistor when it’s the other way. I don’t like that. This chassis lets it sit further away from the power tube but it’s still getting close to the PI components.

I always install an on/off switch and return volume knob so access to the trim pot isn’t necessary anyway. There really isn’t a down side to it being this way. The last Cameron I saw had it mounted like this. Not why I do it, but just shows it’s common.
