Does it sound as good as it looks? I want to go back to playing early to mid 80's metal, and the GG looks the biz!

I’m a huge Charvel fan, but I didn’t like the GG Charvel I tried in either tone or playability. This was years ago though. Maybe more recent ones could be better

i was totally blown away by these gtrs when they came out. my friend is a music store manager who bought one the year it came out, and the store owner then bought one after playing it.

i got to play both and they were extremely nice and consistent for ease of playability in action/tension, killer sounding across all pickup positions, and imo the best charvels i’ve ever played.

i’m also thrilled they are not floyd trem gtrs. never been a floyd guy.

Yes,it actually sounds a lot better than it looks.Top notch guitar.Definitely one to sit right up there with suhr and Tom a ,and I love those too.
This floyd has an awesome feel, the trem no works flawlessly, every pickup setting sounds really good. And that neck is to die for.I hope they would make a hum/ sing/sing with quilt top in the future.

so i guess the trem i played was a floyd bridge-just a original non fine tuner thumbwheel version?

it didn’t look or play like any normal floyd because of how low profile/recessed it was aesthetically and how smoothly it moved. plus no locking nut.

apparently the newer guthries have a charvel trem inspired by the floyd design.

I bought a brand new one a little over 2 weeks ago, I've waited to post a NGD with pics just so I could play it enough and get through the honeymoon phase. I bought the Charvel GG and a Suhr Modern, spending money I don't have. I told myself I would figure which one I like better and I would keep the better of the 2. The bottom line is there's no fucking way I can pick between the 2. The GG is one of the greatest guitars I have ever played. It plays so incredible! Its beautiful the neck is just amazing it stays in tune perfect, the pickups are very dynamic if that makes sense. They sound great with high gain but very smooth, it's kind of hard to put into words. I've owned plenty of Charvels over the years but these guitars are on a completely different level. The looks craftsmanship are just unbelievable. If you're in the market for one I say get it you will not regret the purchase. ??

I have the ash version, amazing guitar.

My only complaint is the delicate finish...it‘s my main gigging guitar and I’ve already rubbed through to raw wood in several spots.

What are the neck dimensions? If it's the typical Charvel carve, I'll pass. The late 70's Charvel kit necks were awesome. I'm hoping it's closer to that early neck carve. Nothing thinner than .87 at the 1st fret w/rolled edges.

I dnt know the thickness specs, but mine GG at least anyways is a C shape, definitely not the typical heavy metal D backshape whereas its real flat on the back and super thick on the sides.Your hand won't get stuck on the sides like a D where the sides are full. My hands can get around better on a c shape than a d.
But somebody else may totally prefer a d over a c.ymmv

I'm also looking at the Music Man Cutlass. If it weren't for the active circuitry in the EBMM Cutlass, I'd be all over it. Nothing beats EBMM in the neck dept, IMO.

Besides an actual vintage 60's strat, the EMBB Cutlass is the best "strat" I've ever played.

Then you should definately try the EBMM Sabre. Its an outstanding guitar. No active circuitry and the MM pickups are excellent sounding as well. I actually traded mine for a Suhr Modern Custom and I feel I got a bit of the short end of the stick.

I'm getting pretty close to putting my Suhr Modern Satin Flame and the Charvel Guthrie Govan up for sale to see what sells first. I can't pick which one I like better so I'll keep whichever 1 doesn't sell and be happy as hell.

I think I'd keep the GG for its exceptionally better looking headstock.

I'm mainly a two guitar owner. One LP and one Strat. A GG in SSS would be perfect.
