We actually tried to buy the high school instruments and they didn't want to do it because they didn't want to spend money to maintain them.

At least in my area, public school spending has ballooned completely out of control, but at the same time they are cutting sports and arts programs left and right - most of the money is spent on middle management/administration/DEI type stuff

It's wild, because at least when I was in high school, we had all sorts of cool music courses and even music study halls where everyone was allowed to practice their whatever for an hour with access to instructors
