Hate when I’m about to sell something then plug into it (Update with Wizard MC vs Hell Razor clip)

I freaking LOVE the low end character on the MCII. Thumps at the perfect frequency. Listen to the first minute or so of Devils Dance (Metallica). Throaty but tight. Oomph.




Left channel is the Wizard (Hetfield)
I believe this was an MC1 Klon boosted lightly. My MCII sounds the same.
 
Which reminds me:

I think it’s worth saying it took me a while to figure out how I have this MC set…. And my other wizards. I like the bright at like sixish, presence cranked, treble low at like 4. Hell razor wasn’t set like this. I’ll have to do another one.

Yeah. Dont think too much about it. Side by side, i doubt i would come to same conclusion. But you did a nice clip of the mc. I wouldnt dial either that way just because i dont play that heavy. But both were nice metal tones for sure.

It's a killer tone and riff for sure. The OG Klon only came out in 94 and I believe this was recorded between the period 95-97. I'm not sure Bob/James were onto the Klon bus that early on but I know Fidelman def used one with James during the DM recordings onwards from the studio footage.
The OG Klon took many many years to really gain real popularity outside of the niche TGP type boutique crowd. The 'ridiculous hype' really exploded around 2009 when Bill (virtually) stopped making them, then the cloners went nuts and the pedal circuit became much more accessible outside.
Greg said 72 seasons def has the Wizard - Klon combo in the mix... but tbh that albums tones are not exemplary at all.
I guess it's possible, but I wouldn't bet my money they used one back then.
Prob all just a Mark III on the album anyway. :sneaky:
 
@Philhouse 100% agreed on 72 seasons tone…fartiest Metallica tone yet and I thought the last few albums were not great tone wise.

I personally love the songs on Death Magnetic and Hardwired (not in comparison to early stuff ofc) but boy do I wish Bob Rock would come back!

Death magnetic had some great riffs. Some very cheesy lyrics though

Dude same! I’ve grown to love everything except Lulu (still haven’t listened to it) and 72 (only listened once)

There was one that came out a few years ago that was complete trash. I gave it a listen once in complete disbelief. Seemed like they were stuck in a different time....and not a good one

Probably referring to 72 seasons. It’s the first time in the bands history where James and Lars gave equal control to Kirk and Rob…and the results were pretty “ungood” imo

Lux Aeterna had potential but it turned out to be the high point for me

And then the tone was just total “aged fart in a box”…fidelman really sucks
