well, I took my John Maye strat to get setup the other day. Since I bought it I hadn't set it up, the strings were a bit high but not much so I just kept playing (my bad)

The thing is the tech told me the neck is twisted, but in a weird way....it's twisted like an S to that when he sets it up so that the guitar won't buzz in the upper frets, it buzzes on the lower frets....he's done everything he can but no luck. He says he could take the frets off and sand it but it'll be to expensive. He says I can buy a good strat neck for less.

This sucks because it's a signature guitar. I don't mind the John mayer signature thing on the back of the neck that's ok but I'd like the same size neck and all that

where in Europe can I buy a good neck ? do you think Fender will sell me a John Mayer neck?

what can I do? :aww:

I'm not a scammer so selling the thing is out of the question (I won't sell a guitar that has a problem)

I would contact Fender about it first. You bought it new, right? Seems to me like they should do something about the situation. Doesn't seem as if negligence was the case, so they may step in and take responsibility.

I got the guitar a year ago :( I don't think Fender will do shit after all this time has passed

You would be surprised, Joey. My Guild (made by Fender) acoustic bridge CAME OFF the guitar (not glued well I guess?), and they took responsibility for it and fixed it, no charge. I had to pay for shipping it there, but that was it. Plays and sounds as good as new.

I should add that the custom Guild that I have has a lifetime warranty, and they will fix anything that is not considered negligence. Kinda cool!

If this is a result of something you did not do and beyond your control, Fender needs to step up and fix it.

I'd call them up, explain, and ask them nicely to evaluate and/or fix your issue. Even if it's out of warranty, if you are cool to them, they might overlook it.

The S thing doesn't really make sense to me - I'd get a second opinion on that. If it buzzes low and not high, and the relief is OK, how about the nut height? Neck angle? It might just need a new nut or a shim. Can you see that it's twisted? Get yourself a good straightedge and don't necessarily just take his word for it.

thank you guys. I already e-mailed Fender Spain and the Thomann representative

ratter, yeah you can see the twist easily.

We lowered the bridge and if you set an mid-low action it buzzes everywhere from the 12th fret down (down literally, not tonally) on the A and E strings, if you set the action high (VERY HIGH) it won't buzz almost anywhere but around the 3rd and 4th fret the B and e strings will buzz a little bit. It's strange

I noticed the guitar strings where high when I bought it, but wasn't unplayable that's why I spent almost a year playing it like that, but I did noticed that I could fret the E string in the middle (between two frets) because it had intonation problems, I had to place my finger almost on top of the fret itself for it to be the real note, for example E string 5th fret, which is A. If my finger was pressing the middle between the two frets it'd be more like an Ab or G# or something in between those notes (intonation problems right?).

anyways I got tired of that and I lowered the strings myself with the little allen wrench Fender supplies. BUM, extreme buzz all over, so I took the guitar to this tech (which seems to know what he's doing) and he told me about the problem, and showed me. Showed me the bend and even tried to lower the strings with me right there.

Anyways, service is very expensive here and I don't wanna have to take it somewhere else and pay 50 bucks for someone else to tell me the same shit. I'll try contacting Fender since the guitar should be under warranty still.

I THINK signature Fenders have a 3 year warranty

I'll wait for Fender or Thomann's response, if they can take care of me, fine. If not, I'm looking for a 2nd and 3rd opinion before buying a new neck, that's for sure

Thanks for asking. I e-mailed Fender Spain and Thomann yesterday... I'm giving them a couple of days since as big corporations prob. have tons of mail, but I'll e-mail again Monday if I don't get an answer. In the mean time I'm picking up my strat from the tech tomorrow so it won't stay there any longer (it's been there for the past 2 and a half weeks)

Hmm, I say pick it up and Pete Townsend it into John Mayers head repeatedly with impugnity. Dont stop until your arms are tired...

Then find something better
